I've been thinking about this a lot recently. After finally getting around to watching Smile (short film was better imo), what's up with the trope of un-aliving animals? Is it because they're more innocent and easily un-aliveable? Is it just a simple freak out for the audience? Is it the film's way of showing how intense it can be? I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just incredibly common. Sorry in advance if this sounds stupid.
