I am obsessed with films that attempt to explain existence or the meaning of life. Some examples are "Holy Mountain," and "Koyaanisqatsi" which I feel attempts this in a more subtle way by showing us the world and our place in it. There are even more coherant films like "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once." There's a lot of films like this that I feel make the attempt outright, and then there's those that are hinting at it like "The Matrix," or "The Truman Show" by suggesting a possibility that the world around us is not real. "2001 A Space Odyssey" could be said to do this in it's attempt to explain where intelligent thought comes from, and therefore negate the need for a meaning to life. I'm interested in learning what other people feel are films that do this, either well or poorly, no need for an explanation unless you want to explain why you think the film is either explaining the meaning to life, summing up existence, or just showing us what reality is.
