For a few months now I've had a pet peeve when it comes to apocalypse movies/TV shows and it's the trope of the world ending immediately, usually overnight.

One minute everything is fine, cue a few emergency vehicles in the background, then everyone's eating each other.

Are there any films (or TV shows) where the end of civilisation takes time to play out in a realistic manner.

Off the top of my head, the only one I can really think of is Contagion.

Children of Men had a realistic setting of a society spiralling towards the end, but that wasn't the focus of the film.

Any recommendations please?

Edit: thank you everyone for your suggestions. It would seem that movies tend to either mainly be post-apocalyptic or their version of the apocalypse is very quick, like an asteroid impact.

There's movies like Contagion, Threads, Don't Look Up and Deep Impact that take a look at how an apocalypse would play out in reality with detail about how the authorities respond but actual apocalypse movies and TV shows are actually quite thin on the ground.

Maybe a long form TV series about a realistic approach to an apocalypse would be a good show?
