I just watched Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and I was shocked to see that the film is essentially a clean split between two distinct Jurassic World movies: In the first half, you have the more standard JP sequel, where a shady billionaire (Rafe Spall) hires the heroes (Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt) to go back to Isla Nublar, this time to save the animals from extinction as a volcano erupts. Great. Good concept. Literally, sequels to the original Jurassic Park have had less plot than that. And in the second half, the movie changes tone, setting, and characters completely, opting for a Gothic dino mansion horror-thriller where a cloned girl discovers the truth about herself and dinosaurs run amok, killing a bunch of rich people and criminals.
Both movies would be great on their own. Heck, either one of those ideas would flourish as a properly paced 90-minute or 2-hour thrill ride, and I would love to see them. (Together though they make for a real bad film.)
What other movies can you guys think of where the film is essentially two movies in one?
