He wrote some good films so he gets my respect. May he rest in peace.

Sick of Myself (2022) from Norway is batshit insane. The pitchest black of black comedies. Itâs about a narcissist woman who willingly consumes a banned pharmaceutical drug with a horrible side effect so that she can earn sympathy and attention from her friends.

I love Colin Farrellâs reemergence. In Bruges and Banshees of Inishiren are amazing

I've never been much of a movie watcher but for years I would always find Remember The Titans starting on TV and I'd always watch it. Easily one of my favourite movies despite not even liking football or sports in general.

Death Becomes Her (ending is kind of an existential nightmare)

There's a bunch of hidden stuff in The Conjuring. I seem to recall that the name of the ghost is spelled out in letters on bookshelves.

In college, my friends and I shouted out the call-and-response at our house parties whenever we were drunk enough, and it caught on quickly as a tradition for anyone who showed up. Itâs a pretty intoxicating feeling leading an entire house through:
âWHAT ARE YOU?!â
âMOBILE! AGILE! HOSTILE!â
âWHAT IS PAIN?â
âFRENCH BREAD!â
âWHAT IS FATIGUE?â
âARMY CLOTHES!â
âWILL YOUUU EVER QUIT?â
âNO! WE WANT SOME MOâ! WE WANT SOME MOâ! WE WANT SOME MOâ!â

This has always confused me⌠Even though I know thereâs two different cop uniforms going on, whenever I watch this scene, it strikes me as odd that they would choose to make one of the coo uniforms almost identical in color to the bad guysâ uniforms. Makes it so confusing, especially because they are involved in a rapid-fire, close-quartered shootout. Why?

"the civil war metaphor is completely incoherent imho."
I feel like people expect the interpersonal conflict to perfectly track the nature of the civil war.
But that's just a weird imposition on the film, there's nothing in it that says 'you must read this interpersonal conflict as an exact allegory for the civil war.'

Think it's late 70's, but Sydney Pollack's Yakuza is great. Seems like there was a dearth in the 80's, as far as American movies anyway.

I'll give you one more off the beaten path, a little Australian found-footage movie called Lake Mungo has a couple of great twists in it, and does you the service of giving you a post-credits scene showing you everything you "should" have noticed the first time around.
