Australian reality tv is just the step influencers take to become mediocre media presenters.

Countdown to the entire home and away back catalogue on Netflix.
But to be fair, a lot of Aussie dramas have had success overseas, especially the European markets.
Neighbours only continued on for so long because it was going gangbusters in the UK to the point the poms know the storylines better than us Aussies.
Plus Heartbreak High was translated into French, Spanish, and German as part of its export. It’s also streaming now on Netflix AU (and maybe other regions) and is still 100% on point for teen high school drama now as it was when I was a teen in the 90s watching it the first time around.
At least Stan will be covered here given they’ve produced a lot of local content originals already.

Im looking at it now haha! And it brings back so much childhood “trauma” haha. The sergeant drilling them man ow man how much fear I had for that voice. And the later scenes gave me so many nightmares.

His second feature I wish You were Here was done through crowd-funding. My issue was that asking fans who love you and are probably just making ends meet to fund your movie when you made 10s of millions of dollars on Scrubs is fucked.

It's not a "chuckle at the Father Ted style wry Irish humour" comedy. It's a bleak "The moments of gallows humour serve to briefly, and artificially, raise your sensibility from total despair, only to allow it to be smashed down again, much in the way that a bare knuckle boxer might pick his downed opponent up by the hair, so that he can smash his skull back down into the canvas once again" kind of humour. If that sounds like it will cheer up your friend, then good luck.

Fucking Utopia. That show is scarily accurate to the point that my ex girlfriend’s boss thought someone In Their office was feeding the production team inside stories.
She works in government town planning and you would swear that Natalie was a carbon copy of her right down to the clothing and hair style choices. Even the pointed attitude was 100% on point.
I worked in govt for a while and I couldn’t watch the show for the longest of whiles because it gave me panic attacks about working in that type of lunacy.
But yeah, it’s top notch and the writers did an amazing job selling the fucked up nature of our government’s actions on infrastructure and planning.

I think Garden State has some strong images, but it has not aged well. Once you realize that Natalie Portman's character is a Manic Pixie Dream Girl, the whole thing kind of falls apart.
EDIT: I should also add that Portman fulfills a similar role in Beautiful Girls, which I think is a better movie.

Agreed. I think Walk Hard might be my favorite role of his. It's got a bit of everything and showcases a lot of his talent.

Dunkirk looked more “exciting” from the trailers
Oppenheimer seems a lot more artistic based off the trailers whereas Dunkirk was like teasing nonstop action

John C Reilly is such a great actor in general, especially serious roles. I’ve always felt like people don’t give him the credit he deserves.

It's not your fault. It's funny in exactly the same way that the Irish Civil War is funny. And for the exact same reason (e.g. you need a deep black vein of humour at human unreason to laugh at it)
