Didn't Raya cause the calamity of her region and her her father killed? I'd consider someone that goes from a position of power (princess or a Wayne) and brings about ruin, loses all their family, or wanders alone to count in the vein of what I'm looking for. Whilst they might be honorary in name they still have a journey of realizing their potential

Completely agree! Del Toro added to the story, made it make more sense and got you way more emotionally invested. Of course he also brought along his good luck charm, Ron Pearlman. Love that some directors and actors in Hollywood have like a special bond / collaboration. Also liked the language joke with "il dulce". I highly recommend you watch the making of mini-documentary, if you haven't already?

Yeah, why try to protect local culture when we really know locals just want imported pop culture that has no significance regionally. Why tryto help local artists when we could keep giving the rich Hollywood talent more money and a louder voice! You're absolutely right, if it doesn't sell there's no purpose to art!
