I'm not. You're pretending that they aren't something that they are.

>Also you act like there's some grand narrative to the whole thing

They have as much of a "grand narrative" as any ongoing, open-ended TV series. Which is to say, they may not have a fixed "grand narrative," but they do pay attention to continuity, and the characters and storylines develop within that continuity. Which is why if you don't pay attention to continuity, you won't get anything out of it, and you clearly don't.

No, it is not scary in a traditional sense. I don’t recall any jump scares.

The movie, on the other hand, has a lot of disturbing (sometimes gory/body horror) imagery throughout and explores a lot of disturbing/unnerving themes.

As far as enjoyability goes, i have heard a lot of people familiar with Brandon Cronenberg’s previous work say that it was good, but not quite as good as Possessor.

Personally, I really enjoyed the film and couldn’t stop thinking about it for a couple of days. It has a unique story, and thought it was executed very well. If disturbing movies are your thing, I highly recommend this one.

Media literacy is dead, and people can’t enjoy visual splendor and visual storytelling anymore apparently. Classic storytelling is to be picked apart and deconstructed. The only important thing is “plot” and cramming as much into every scene as possible so there’s no possibility of lingering in uncomfortable emotions.

Modern directors are like “Oh no, the audiences are having a genuine emotional experience, quick, throw in some quips or some back door pilot or some fan service shit!”

as dysfunctional as they are? The family in "This is where I leave You" seems like an actual healthy family relationship. They give each other hell but it's a healthy hell they're not being spiteful or hateful even with all the differences.

The spirit is kinda there, but what really helped the Rocky movies is the music. Bill Conti's original score (Gonna Fly Now, Going The Distance, The Final Bell, Redemption) and some great pieces (Eye of the Tiger, No Easy Way Out, Burning Heart, Training Montage, Hearts On Fire) added so much intensity and emotion to the scenes, it was very important. However in Creed it's mostly horrible rap, and the OST by Ludwig Göransson isn't up to Conti's. There is no memorable music piece. It might not seems like much but think about Star Wars without Williams. It's simply not as good.
