I think that scene and the message it conveyed is why many of us rewatched it during Covid lockdown a few years ago.

This was crazy to read. I was about 21 smack in the middle of all of this and thought it was the most amazing time. But looking back I can’t imagine how a kid between 11-16 would handle all of that change in such a short period of time.

I’m sure this is weird, but what a pleasant and understanding comment to see on reddit.
“That’s okay. Thank you, though.”
Just stumbling upon this, I appreciate it so much. You seem like a lovely and wonderful person.

I love this movie. It's just that good. I actually do consider it extremely underrated. Of all the movies Tom Hanks gets credit for (Forrest Gump, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan, etc), I don't think a lot of people consider this movie to be one of the bests of the 90s.
The 90s produced some of the greatest movies ever made, IMO. No one will ever say that Cast Away is as good as...say Shawshank Redemption. I will. I will say Cast Away is just as good as Shawshank Redemption.

Different things grab me every time but yes the scene you’re talking about hit me hard when I watched it for the first time in the theater 22 years ago. Love that “the sun will rise” quote. Great scene.

But you’re saying it’s a racist stereotype to say Obama smoked menthols when it’s factually accurate to say people in his demographic are more likely to smoke them

Mandy (amazing director/cinematography/soundtrack combined with sort of a comeback role for Nic Cage)

You’re fucking incredible man. I could show up to your house with Obama right now and light up a whole carton of Marlboro Reds and you’d still have a come back.

Reply to comment by Earthling7228320321 in Why Film Festivals Are Steering Clear of Controversial Movies by BobRobot77
>...the bad guys now for not watching things they don't like.
What does that have to do with the selection process? Films should be chosen based on their strength, is it good art or is it shit. I want to see good films, I dont care about the narrative the selection committee of a film festival is trying to push. The film should stand on its own merit.
Have you been to a film festival and had to sit through endless series of fucking terrible films. And then found out later through the discussion panel they were chosen specifically because of the filmmakers background. What happened to just picking films based on the work?
After awhile you begin to not go to film festivals and just watch only the things you want to watch online. Now it seems the only people who show up to film festivals are the filmmakers and their friends.
If the movie about the 'transphobic gay guy' is good, people are going to watch it, they are watching all the other bullshit, if its good they will probably even pay attention while its playing. It would be at a film festival not at your local theater or streaming on netflix.

Reply to what are some Movies where the Wolf ISN'T the Main Antagonist or isn't a Villain that stays a Villain? by LUIGIISREAL2017
I think in "Red Riding Hood" movie with Amanda Seyfried there's a bad wolf (the main baddie, I think her father) and her boyfriend turns into a werewolf who later learns to control his wolf powers.

how does this unattributed quote prove your argument? it clearly states that he may not have been a purist because he bummed cigarettes.
i don’t think you fully understand how this whole debating things works.
you’re also positively freaking out over a single, unimportant joke in the first 5 minutes of a 120 minute movie. touch grass man

Reply to Movies in which the actors actually cry? by TumbleweedSea788
Claudine (1974) with Diahann Carroll and James Earl Jones. The story is about a blended black working class family who is struggling to make ends meet and it was one of the more realistic and understandable dramas I have seen in recent times.
There is a scene where Jane's Earl Jones is giving up and crying into his dinner and it's really hard to watch- really tears and sobbing. He was incredible.
