Wings of Desire when Cassiel tries to stop the guy from jumping off the building. One of my favorite scenes in any movie.

these 11 year olds are not just propping up arguments that adults take seriously and listen to, they're propping up arguments that adults internalize and move forward with. i maintain, the democratization of speech is cool, but it's hardly the ideal we all pretend it is. there's a certain value in the gatekeeping of voices. it may sound needlessly discriminatory to some, and i totally understand why, but as a general rule, not listening to children is a good idea. some of them are wise beyond their years, brilliant, smarter than most adults, no doubt. but the majority of them are just less experienced, less learned, less developed adults. having said that, i have no opinion on this particular film being left out of this festival. i don't know enough about it to form an opinion. i generally oppose censorship as well as self-imposed censorship as a result of a toxic environment, but i don't want to speak about specifics without knowing more details

Lets call it the podcastification of documentary films into tv series.

> censorship
Yeah I think that’s exactly what it is. It’s self censorship or preemptive censorship. I recently watched Trading Places with Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd and realized a move like that would never be made today in a million years, which is a shame because it’s absolute comedy gold.

Most streaming documentaries nowadays. They like to pad out true crime stories into nonfiction miniseries, when a feature-length film is enough time to tell the story.

And this is exactly why we need to stop making films of actual serial killers. If you want the details you can read the autopsy reports. Don’t look to real tragedies sensationalized as entertainment because you want to see “more disturbing scenes”

This guy makes 5/10 films that LOOK like 10/10 films and I love it. Only exception is The Cell which is obv 10/10 all around.
Great director with an eye for the spectacular, even if the films themselves don’t always translate.

Suicide is neutral. If anything we romanticize living a long life and enjoying "the golden years".

Yeah it seems the BBFC is quite strict on ratings compared with the US. Most of these films that are pg-13 over there are 15+ in the U.K.

That’s true, you brought about a lot of good points but the romanticization of harmful activities aren’t portrayed as outlets to pain, rarely it ever is, the harmful activities are romanticized to show the truth or beauty in it which can’t necessarily affect naive minds as much as seeing people be happy because they can end their life and suffering by themselves.
The romanticization of such scenes imo also is nice kind of, it shows like an answer, even if it’s wrong, to any character hurting and truth
