The "hit Netflix dramas" that come out about once a year all could be. Squid Game had a good amount of fluff to cut as well.

I suspect that they probably did have intentions for it, but just decided to clean the slate when the movie underperformed. Usually when they make these fourth entries it's with the intention of starting a new trilogy and that almost never makes it off the ground.
