I thought the movie made a big stink of Farrakhan's views and the fact that they are upsetting to a lot of people. But the movie was about a Nation of Islam follower, which is not a small amount of people, so they also spoke of their reverence to him.

The point of this movie is to talk about the cross-racial/religious/cultural divides. If that's what we're calling normalization, then that is what it will take to address the issues of Farrakhan and his beliefs.

When Depp had the opportunity to transition into leading roles in movies he decided to work with people like John Waters, Tim Burton and Emir Kusturica. No one would have faulted him if he wanted to do dumb comedies or cop movies or whatever else, but he wanted to do work that he found interesting and challenged him as an actor.

So even putting talent aside Depp was particularly adventurous and was able to brand himself as a versatile and capable actor early in his film career. No disrespect to Luke Perry but he was no Johnny Depp.

Plus, ER is for adults, while 90210 is for teens. None of the 90210 cast was in a show that rocketed them into giant lead, movie fame. Depp was basically launched by Tim Burton.

I said it in a previous discussion a couple days ago, but the cuts were definitely microscopic. Martin Scorsese literally removed 5/12 of a seconds from Goodfellas for an R. That much.

Infinity Pool's NC-17 was for "some graphic violence and sexual content". The R? "Graphic violence, disturbing material, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use, and some language."

Further supporting this: The rating in Norway is an 18, the equivalent of an NC-17. And it's been rated as such for having "several strong depictions of drug abuse, sex, violence, and murder", with some of the murder depictions being "so close and grotesque" it rewards it an 18.

Not everyone uses subtitles when watching films or TV when they’re in their own language. I’ve always found it to be incredibly distracting unless it’s a non-English soundtrack. Of course, I have a pretty decent sound setup, so I rarely have issues with hearing what people are saying, except for rare cases like what Nolan did with Tenet. I personally think this tech is pretty cool to be honest.

Its more a cutoff of when you realize your info about the world is incomplete and by that age, you walk away from making blanket assessments about human behavior. It takes a while to get a full exposure to humanity and sub 25 peeps usually get excluded from experiencing whole segments of existence.

I see your legitimate opinion was removed by the mods. Maybe because it's not legit and just dog shit.

> But that's personal and in the current social climate it's very tricky

"It's personal" is a weak defense for your generation's behavior. I understand that the current social climate is people like you whose brains are highly influenced by social media, but the way to change that is to just fucking ignore what the social media culture wants and do whatever you want to do. The internet isn't real, and people engaging in the behavior you are currently engaging in IS A FAR BIGGER PROBLEM.

>And yes something can be racial without being racist. But if you're being clubsy with such a touchy issue, you deserve the backlash.

I think you're the one being clubsy in your thinking, and you're the backlash. You don't have to be either.

>Touching racial subjects is very hard. It's like playing with fire.

Only if you're a child about things.

>I don't feel like it's going on a limb to say that the directors burned themselves on this one.

You're absolutely going out on a limb, and they didn't burn anything.

I'd rather say that hype is a social reaction, sometimes encouraged by a movie's marketing team, but always coming from audience interaction with each other. And can an art really be separated from its reaction? I don't think so, because a reaction is what defines art.
