Shouldn't have won that Oscar imo.

Quality actor, great range, Catch Me If You Can, The Departed and Wolf of Wall Street are my faves but he's made a ton of fantastic movies.

I do agree with that, he always looks likes just ACTING. SO. HARD. But not in the Nic Cage kind of way where the theatrical artificiality is part of the fun, DiCaprio is trying to be naturalistic but it always feels phony to me.

It would be amazing to see the actual plot of the books adapted, I feel the moving cities thing really could look amazing if it was done by people that actually gave a shit
And Hester needs to look actually fucked up, not the Ready Player One/Tyrion Lannister thing where they were described as disfigured in the books but look basically fine on camera.

I must say I have to disagree with the Departed. Matt Damon was good but he definitely did not outshine Leo. If anything I would say Jack Nicholson just because well he's Jack Nicholson and he rocks.
Lifesaboxofgardens t1_j9oyvk5 wrote
Part of why Leo is such a great leading man is because he is willing to letting co-stars shine. He just plays his role to an elite level for what his role is, even if his character isn't as compelling as others. I would also disagree he was outshined by anyone in The Departed, and him and Pitt were toe to toe IMO in Once Upon a Time.

I feel he always gives the role 110%, kind of like Tom Cruise you know you are going into a movie with a vibrant strong actor. Almost more like theatre where you expect a 'performance'.

He won an Oscar for being really cold.

I've been out of the loop in Hollywood news lately so maybe it's just a coincidence. But I just noticed it during Wolf of Wall Street and Once upon a time in Hollywood when I watched it a few years ago. Especially with that Timothy Oliphant scene.

I think he’s one of the greats but kinda boxed himself in once he became a leading man. He was protecting his reputation and only working with great directors, but the roles also tended to fall into a certain lead role category. He’s gonna be the confident guy in a suit who at some point breaks down and yells.
I’ve really enjoyed seeing him go a little outside that box with OUATIH and Don’t Look Up. He’s got excellent comic timing and, as I said, is a great actor. He just needs to stop trying to prove it.
But this is all nitpicking. If the dude stars in a movie, I’m gonna check it out. He doesn’t make bad films.

I think he’s a phenomenal actor!!

Love all his movies, but much like Natalie Portman and Keira Knightley I always feel like they are "acting" acting and that there is someone else who could always give the roles a more naturally authentic emotional performance. I am a huge fan of Leo and Natalie's movies and I don't think they ever ruin the movies but somebody could always fit in the role better.

Seems very popular to bash the man lately.

It was visually great, and I really liked the first half. I felt that it missed something in the second half, and I think it was the screen time of Shrike. I wish the story was more about the relationship with him than the actual war.

Sorry for the typo btw- DiCaprio's
I also forgot, Wolf of Wall street - He's heavily outshined by Matthew McConaughey during their scene together
Samuel L Jackson is also a better villain in Django

There's a good story hiding in there. Sadly, they chose to do the shitty YA post apoc one. the robot sub plot was more interesting.

I actually loved it, sad there won't be any follow up movies, I've just always loved steampunk themed movies, games and animes and this one reminded me so much of one of all time favorite games growing up

Sailor moon movie would be hard to make as it has to much fantasy aspects that would be impossible to bring to life the transformation scene alone would be nearly impossible to do for a live action

It was Valerian with better actors whom had even less box office appeal. At least Dane had a SpiderMan!

> The craftsman behind Mortal Engines should be heralded for the visual effects in this film
The effects looked like some crap from the mid 90s...

I loved him in The Departed. I thought he was great in The Aviator, Catch me if you can.
