I think Leo is competent overall but the roles he chooses are great roles that befit his status — but I think some roles with crazy range would make him stand out. For instance the Django and OUATIH movies were less preening and so it was more entertaining for me.

My honest opinion about Leo in general is that when he was young — he had the perfect look. Unique handsome features, long limbs, tall, great hair.

Now he is considerably less handsome than Brad Pitt, who arguably got a little more rugged looking. Leo's current look is he is a dad bod with a kinda large looking head.

I understand that when we go to movies, there is something about us that loves to admire beautiful people as the main protagonist. Leo to me is not quite fulfilling that anymore in my opinion. It's the fantasy we all have to see ourselves as that person when watching.

As an example, RDJ is NOT the most handsome older man ever but he has aged better and his acting method comes off just right with his current age.

He's one of the all time greats. What he lacks in range (which is much better than he gets credit for), he makes up for with sheer commitment to every performance. His presence in a film is basically a seal of quality. Leo doesn't do stinkers, he doesn't do cash grabs, and he doesn't do blockbuster drivel.

Behind the scenes, he deserves mad props for dumping shitloads of time and money (about a decade) trying to get a live action Akira adaptation going. He will probably be old enough to play the scientist by the time it happens.

People wanna shit on him for dating young girls but certainly look the other way when it comes to their favorite musicians and sports stars. How dare he be a mega giant sex symbol that has young girls clawing at him. I'm sure that every man criticizing him would be like 'no ms world class supermodel I will not have sex with you and a room full of your friends'. Dudes hit bullseye's for 30 years straight. Let him fuck supermodels, lol.

He had.

I would say 99% of child actors are terrible, but sometimes we are graced by a child who can act - Tatum O’Neil’s performance in Paper moon comes to mind.

It is considerably harder to think through this for adult actors, who are either grown up child actors (like Bale) or who made it big after a slate of small appearances (like many of the answers in this thread).
