It's not top tier Scorsese and Leo's probably a little too young for the role, I would have loved to see Christian Bale in the role (Tommy Lee Jones played a great Howard Hughes in a TV movie from the early 80's). But Leo gives it his full go, and delivers a good performance. I don't think it's great in the second half but the first half when he's making Wings and before his breakdown it's great stuff.

I haven't heard 90% of the criticism in this thread ever in real life. It's very nitpicky callouts of his calling cards and quirks, which every actor ever has in one way or another.

I get that he's less popular at the moment but it was only a handful of years ago that he was in every sense considered the heir to DeNiro.

Great actor, don't believe he's top tier with Day Lewis, prime De Niro, Nicholson, Pacino levels. I think he's the level below them.

I think he made some of his more interesting and braver roles pre Titanic personally. But he's very smart picking out his projects (although I didn't like Don't Look Up at all) and is usually great most of them. Some films where he's blown off the screen by other like The Revenant And Inception with Tom Hardy or Gangs of New York with Day Lewis. But other films he's amazing in like Wolf of Wall Street and The Departed.

Great actor though and one of those that doesn't phone it in.

I think he coasted on his looks a lot in the 90s and 2000s, I love the Departed but he's probably the weakest link in that film, unfortunately. Not a lot of range.

He's been doing good work in the past decade though. Django was fairly impressive, the Revenant was alright too. Wolf of Wall Street and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood are my favourite performances of his, besides Gilbert Grape which is probably his best role.

The torture chamber was hidden in an abandoned building, but was still discovered. Years later, the cult is refining its methods. Where better to hide a torture chamber than under a quiet suburban home?

In that respect, the family's kids are just part of the deception. I'd guess they didn't even know about the cult or their parents' membership.
