Trial and error or connections when it comes to finding a good mechanic. By good mechanic, I'm not talking about someone ignoring safety standards and slapping a sticker on any jalopy. It took me a while to find an honest but lenient mechanic. He'd tell me if something was an actual immediate safety issue and wouldn't slap a sticker on if that was the case. He'd straight up tell me what needs to be replaced and to come back once it's fixed. He'd give his price for the repair but suggested shopping around and even telling me what parts I should get myself if I wanted to do it myself.
Other minor issues, he'd tell me "get this fixed before you come back next year, otherwise you'll likely fail inspection". He'd never pressure me into having those minor issues dealt with immediately by him. He was my go-to guy. Unfortunately health issues forced him out of the business.

I mean we are the only state who has winter sports during the summer apparently.

Institutions are prizes for whoever can play politics well enough to get control of them. What happened to the ACLU isn't the result of short term political expediency.

I think most places are swap. My wife and I had to swap our cylinder when we did it last.

Curious, what aspects of NH have, or are evolving, to move away from relying winter tourism/sports?

I don't know how you can read what that person wrote and come to the conclusion that it was just incel drivel dipshittery. They were fairly respectably sharing their thoughts and perspective on a contentious matter. You coming along and slinging sex based insults doesn't help anyone.

Yeah. I moved away years ago. But I swear we got a new police chief every other year during and immediately after my high school years. I'm relying on my patchy memory, but I believe Hudson and Litchfield were known for having pretty corrupt departments. Everything from domestic stuff, DUIs, and more police involved shootings than you'd expect in two small towns.
I want to say Hudson may have cleaned up... But Litchfield clearly still has work to do.

Unfortunate it seems many once great institutions are using their long earned and deserved reputations of the past to now quickly throw that away in the name of political expediency.

This is your best bet. The only reasons we have inspections is becuase one guy owns a bunch of dealerships and spends a lot of money lobbying the states politicians. He is currently trying to convince them to change it to 6 month inspection.

I know in early 2000s it happened repeatedly because they just kept shuffling the same upper leadership into different roles as if they all weren’t cut from the same cloth and then were shocked when another one who supported the others got in the same situation. Don’t know about now though
