This seems like a very good time to remind everyone reading this that calling the cops on someone suffering from serious mental illness— or even minor mental illness— sometimes directly leads to their death

Don’t involve the people who run in with guns and spray places and people with bullets unless you need and expect someone to possibly spray bullets all over the damn place

If it’s a serious enough situation that the benefit of police intervention outweighs the risk the person who needs help will get hurt or killed, feel free to call the cops. Unfortunately that should be the equation we all do before we dial that number; cops are not adult Boy Scouts like they try to teach us when we’re kids, and weighing the risk vs benefit before involving them in anything is necessary for communities who truly want to look out for each other

You may not be able to say but the landlord did say I can go month to month if he doesn't sell the condo by March 1st but that he can't guarantee how long I will be able to stay (I told him I'm moving across country in June)

What I'm worried about is if he sells but the sell falls through because I refuse to move out because my wife and I have no where to go, can the landlord sue us for the sale not going through?

I read their body cams were on, so until we see proof there was justified reason to shoot and kill a child who had a knife I’m going to assume the same thing I always do for now: the cops likely killed someone in the grips of a serious mental health crisis because there was no attempt at useful deescalation (they probably don’t even know how to spell it) and somebody was jumpy

And sure, I could be wrong. But I could also be right, and have been many times before about shit like this. It’s incredibly sad either way, but if this ends up being a child who desperately needed help but “fell through the cracks” and is dead today because nobody intervened until a shot was fired— it’s one more name on a long list of names failed by this state’s abysmal mental health resources and services

We all deserve better

🔼some new info from earlier tonight that’s relevant to this particular conversation. You can see in the link that it says logs show he was tased and shot within two minutes of when the police got there, but this article also mentions prior calls to the residence for claims of Mischa behaving violently— nothing is mentioned about any charges or arrests or detainments, or interventions/mental health treatment/diagnoses/etc

Directly quoted:

**Fay’s mother called 911 at 9:52 p.m. asking for assistance with her son who ‘has a knife and is in a rage.’

At the time of the call, Merrill Fay, Mischa’s father, was locked in his office inside the house, according to the police report.

Two Gilford police officers arrived at the home on Varney Point Road at 9:56 p.m. Within two minutes, one officer had fired a Taser, while another officer fired his gun. It’s not clear from the police report how much time passed between the Taser being fired and the fatal gunshot. The officers attempted CPR before Fay was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It isn’t clear how officers may have attempted to engage with Fay, or what prompted the officer to fire their gun. An investigation into the shooting is “active and ongoing” according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s office**

The fastest way to evict in NH is for nonpayment of rent and that is almost a couple months from start to finish. Any other reason takes longer. He may sell if he wants but don’t forget this is your home in a very very tight rental market. Just keep telling him you cant move ( but make sure you keep paying your rent)

Newmarket is definitely small but has UNH the next town over, which keeps it young relative to the rest of NH. Also not too far from Portsmouth and the beach. The Stone Church and Oak House are two places lots of younger people hang out at. Dover is definitely bigger but similar situation albeit a little more working-class.

New Market is nice super tiny. Seems like a nice town, but you're talking a population of like 5,000 9,000 and a tiny handful of bars and restaurants.

But I'm with you on Dover, New Market feeling a little more alive. Portland and Manchester both have the sad ghost-town vibe, like they used to be something much more than they are now.

I've had friends from out of state visit Portland with the same reaction. Saying it was a cool town, but they were wondering where all the people were. They both feel like they should have way more people out and about.

Kinda depends on what "northern NH" is to you all.

Not distribution stuff, but there is a FedEx hub in Littleton and a UPS hub in Carroll/Twin Mountain.

A search for beverage distributors on google came up with a Pepsi place in Conway, but blech on the whole Conway area unless you love tourist traffic.

Good luck with the move.
