My husband and I once got to help translate between a Scottish hostel host and a German cyclist. Both of them understood us perfectly because of American TV. Both were 90-95% comprehensible to us, but when they talked to each other it was blank, confused looks all around. My favorite part is when she was so flustered she couldn't remember another word for "loo" and the poor German guy was standing there awkwardly until my husband burst out "TOILET IS DOWN THE HALL."

Overall, I think most NH accents are considered perfectly understandable outside of home. We certainly have our little quirks but nothing too outlandish.

My former Wisconsin boss thought "wicked" was an exaggerated joke until she visited. But they say "horse a piece" instead of "six of one" and when you mix it with a Bostonian understanding of expressions it sounds like "horse of peace" which is incomprehensible.

I second driving through the notch. There's a nice loop you can do that'll take you through Franconia notch and Crawford notch, to Conway, then down through the lakes region. Probably about a 3h loop if you don't stop but there are areas and short hikes scattered all around that loop. If you do go up to Franconia notch, a classic touristy thin to do is to check out the basin (cool water feature, not quite a waterfall) and the log flume. The polar caves near attitash are a fun little spot too. Attitash also has a Mt coaster but I'm not sure if it'll be open by then, with any luck they'll still be skiing.

Not that their food has ever been good...but even from a low bar I swear over the past year and a half the food is garbage tier now.

Such sad, horrible news. I ski there often with my little ones during the week. After discussing this story with my husband, we plan to have a talk with our littles about safety on the hill. We have always told them to use the whole trail to make full turns in order to control their speed. we don’t want to scare them but here is a good example of when not to get too close to the sides on the trail.

prayers to the family and friends. Absolutely heartbreaking.

If you’re talking about fine dining this may be true, but NH is where it’s at for comfort food. Best chicken tendies and perfect pint at Kathleen’s Cottage in Bristol. Great options at the Japanese Steakhouse in town there, too. My favorite restaurant is Moat Mountain, although the beer is whatever. Short rib nachos are amazing.

Coe brown has their own voc programs. I know for a fact they have agriculture programs and have for years but that their agriculture programs aren't as strong as the one at dover. I went to Dover high and the animal science teacher who heads up the dover high program graduated from coe brown

As someone who went to Dover high but lived in a neighboring community, the best part about going to Dover high was being right at the school and having the career technical education classes right on site. So I didn't have to spend a large chunk of my day on the bus traveling from my "home" school to Dover high to take classes and taking time away from the other general ed classes for travel time. I had "area" kids in my class from as far away as Milton and marshwood high school in Maine and those kids spent quite a chunk of time on the busses traveling to my school for classes

Not sure if y'all will have a car, but I recommend Hannaford (the grocery store) because it's so clean (compared to other grocery stores) and I always like visiting the local grocery stores whenever I was on roadtrip with my parents (originally from NJ but moved to New England for grad school and beyond)

Related to that; I was having lunch in a 99 right before Xmas and sat next to an overly talkative older gentleman. Somehow got on the topic of jobs and he explained he worked with fish and game as a cat expert. I jokingly said, you mean the mountain lions! He went on for 5 mins about how there are mountain lions that come into NH from Canada but they don’t have a strong population. He swore they were tracking a male mountain lion that was currently living on the NW side of Lafayette etc and that they won’t admit it because they will have to change how they manage things etc.. Convincing story, certainly not impossible but unlikely. Made for an interesting lunch nonetheless
