Reply to Merrimack Teacher, Coach, A Suspect In A Fatal Hit-And-Run, Found Dead by hopefully-a-good-buy
I had this guy for my freshman health class. Wicked nice guy totally normal. Haven’t heard anything more other than rumored that he was found in his car dead.

Terrible story. I wonder if there is more to it.
Weird observation - Newbury -> Merrimack is quite the commute.

The headline is worded strangely, but all 3 descriptors describe Shawn Croteau in this case.

Hampton Beach is great. It can get really busy during the summer and there have been some issues with some people in recent years, but I've been going up there for over 10 years and I've never encountered a single issue.

Reply to Hiking Mount Eisenhower via Edmonds path as a hiker that never hiked in the winter; is this a good idea? by Zestyclose_Thanks_96
As an experienced winter hiker, going up Eisenhower solo without adequate gear or prep is foolhardy at best and suicidal at worst. There are many other areas to start off with (as mentioned above, Pierce is a great starter).

Wondering...those of you who are in favor of this legislation because, "kids aren't old enough to make these kinds of decisions," where do you stand on minors being charged as adults for criminal activity?

In classic /r/NewHampshire fashion, people have no grasp on the facts. Transitioning, even for kids, has numerous positive outcomes and the research supports that.

Then no one can use the “making decisions for little kids” excuse. There’s no reason for it anyway.

And this is where your ignorance shines so brightly. If you actually knew anyone you claim to be protecting you would have an idea of just how backward your thinking is. No parent has ever said "Gee, I really wish I had a son I stead of a girl. I think I am going to make them suffer through a lifetime of mental trauma and force them to become a girl" This never happens. The child starts to question their identity. I loving and responsible parent listens to them and talks with the child about why they think that. Maybe even finding others that have gone through the same thing so they can talk it out together. No one is proposing abuse. Quite the opposite in fact if you actually read what I am saying and think with an open mind.

The "chopping" things off is a fallacy. That isn't not being done in the USA, except in extreme cases. Certainly not in NH. This is the kind of thing that brings bomb threats down on children's hospitals for no reason. The most that is being done is the removal of breast tissue, which is reversible if wanted. Drugs, etc are reversible.

We already do. Circumcision. That is allowed in this bill.

Reply to Hiking Mount Eisenhower via Edmonds path as a hiker that never hiked in the winter; is this a good idea? by Zestyclose_Thanks_96
First of all, they have to do the 2.2 mile road walk down Mount Clinton Road to even get to the trailhead because the gate is closed. If they are down for the roadwalk, Edmands Path is generally okay to about 3500 feet then it gets really steep for about 800 feet. Once you reach 4200 feet you walk along a tilted path along the back of the mountain before ascending, that section is prone to windblown snow so snowshoes will be needed. From there you take the final climb above treeline. That climb has at least 5 or 6 right angle turns that rookies can easily miss when climbing. So yeah, it's a situation for experienced hikers, forget about a newbie. If there is unbroken trail covered by snow and they dont have snowshoes they are in for a slow climb. If there is limited visibility it gets even trickier. Also - bailing out or even doing an up and down via Edmands would suck because then you still have that 2.2 mile road walk back to the car. Anyone doing this hike is generally looping back to Pierce and back to the car because it is just dumb to go back down Eisenhower because it adds more distance.
My advice would be to tell them to do Pierce instead. Good hike for newbies - head up crawford path, stay left at the split and shake down their equipment. Save Edmands Path for when they have more experience.

Doesn't really sound like a good idea. Snow shoes would definitely come in handy, given that you know.. it just snowed a bunch. Winter hiking has a lot of stuff to learn, like how to keep warm but not sweat, make sure your water doesn't freeze, keep your cell phone from dying etc. Lastly, going up treeline in winter can be... very interesting. Even if there's no storm, blowing snow and cloud cover can make it like walking into pea soup.
For a newer person I'd recommend Tecumseh, Waumbek or Cannon instead.

I’d say in general if this is your first winter hike ever don’t go alone, find someone knowledgeable who has done winter homes before to go with you and inspect your gear before you start and point out anything you’re missing.

When they cause irreparable damage to their body while they are a child who has no idea what they want in life and then grow up to regret it is when they’re going to kill themself

That's my main issue with the bill. I do not like the explicit approval of procedures on intersex children.
Oh, you think it's abuse if a doctor, therapist, teenager, and parent all agree to use puberty blockers? But it's fine for parents to cut the dick off a hermaphroditic or ambiguous kid and raise them as a female before the kid is even able to talk? Make it make sense!!

>Allowing children who are questioning their gender to delay that decision a few years with relatively safe medication is the better choice.
Yes, that would be a better choice if it was a real choice, but it's not. Delaying pubertal timing causes all kinds of musculoskeletal and cardiovascular issues.
