NH politics has long been in favor of single suppliers. Selling it as better than the alternative, saddling the cost of investing and adding more suppliers...Even internet which is much easier than electric to add to existing poles. We in southern NH have just started getting real alternatives to Comcast internet.

It's all politics, they're in bed with the big guys.

Except remember, that the South voted as a block democratic for almost a century because the hatred of the party of Lincoln was so strong. Even though the Democrats in the late 19th century with a party of labor and in the 20th century progressivism, nonetheless the Democratic vote of the southern block be counted on until civil rights. It was a bitter pill that the Democratic party took and of course the right thing, but it cost the Democratic party dearly and has never quite recovered. Every one of those states now is firmly in the grip of the GOP

Everscource and other power companies met before the hikes and agree they all up the rates then the gov approves it for most likely nice campaign contributions or other perks who knows.
Everscource then ups the delivery rate if costumers change to the companies that charge a little less as we all know they OWN the damn lines. All of them where I live in NH.
In Europe they capped the price of electricity so THIS could not happen. Gas companies made record profits, just like in this country, but over the the gov stepped in to help the people, not approve something to financially burden them even more.
