I left about 20 years ago but have visited several times in recent years.

It is beachy and rural and housing prices are on the affordable side.

One of my biggest issues was there is very little diversity and a fair amount of bigotry.

At the time I left crime and drug use among teens and young adults was fairly high. Not sure how it is today.

Most retail is chain stores and strip malls. You may live within walking distance of a strip mall, but it is really not a walking community and you will need to drive to do pretty much anything.

Elementary schools could be within walking distance but middle and high school are definitely a bus or car ride.

It's also very far right politically and it's pretty common to see Trump/Lets Go Brandon/ Confederate flags on houses and trucks.

I'm just focusing on the negative. I'm sure some will have more positive things to say.

Best thing would be to take a trip there one day. Find a couple of listing you might be interested in and scope out the community. Summer traffic can get crazy on the weekends so between now and spring would be a good time.

There is no reason why we should even have to carry our drivers license. Police can already pull up your license information from you either giving your name and birthday, or license plate.

Fining people for forgetting their license at home is a money grab.

Now for proof when you visit private businesses maybe this can be useful and you can pull up your info on your apple wallet.

It's too late to postpone it says. Just called again and talked to someone much nicer who told me next time I need to postpone earlier.

The annoying part is they summoned me today so I took off work, but today was only the "Orientation" which was 15 minutes long... Why can't it all just be on the same day!?!

Another thing to consider beyond using the Gladstone Branch of the M&E line (and walking/biking to your closest station) is the NJTransit 986 bus, which connects to Summit (and also to New Providence/Plainfield stations). https://content.njtransit.com/pdf/schedules/bus/986

Between these three stations, you have lots of options. Definitely opt for a walkable or bikeable last leg if you can.

Lakeland Bus has its 78 service running down 512 into Berkeley Heights, then Springfield Ave through New Providence and into Summit, then Broad St to the Summit Park & Ride, then express to PABT. It’s good to know that route as an option.
