197 bus to Warwick. Sit back, relax, watch the Highlands pass by. Look over the Wanaque and Monksville Reservoirs and go the entire length of Greenwood Lake. Ascend the Bearfort Ridge. Feeling spry? Hike the AT from the creamery/eagle lookout on 17A to the state line trail.

When you get into Warwick, have lunch at one of the spots there, or double back and have a supper at Viaggio in Wayne.

Definitely this, especially if OP has non-9-5 hours. There’s loads of EWR workers doing what they’re doing, from ramp workers and FA s to A/P and pilots.

62 runs 24/7 (downtown Newark and Elizabeth)

37 runs 4am-11:30pm (Weequahic area in particular)

go28 runs basically 24/7 (along Bloomfield Ave in Bloomfield and Newark)

Ignore 67, very limited schedule.

Train (NEC or NJCL) to Airtrain is decent, but check the schedules carefully. 107 provides overnight bus service from NYC.

I didn’t realize NJT used to run all the way to 30th street! That sucks that they don’t run that anymore. And yeah I feel you. I remember reading about NJT getting all sorts of praise in the mid 2000s as one of the best regional rail systems in the country. By like 2010 or 2012 at the latest all the coverage had switched to “NJT is a dumpster fire. Read about how it’s been run into the ground in only half a decade!”

I've worked on those projects too. The most frequent reason is zoning. It's hard to rezone commercial into industrial and governments avoid it like the plague as it lowers property values. Other common reasons why is because the expected truck volume estimated for the distribution warehouse is unacceptable for major thoroughfares used for commuting. There's a lot of reasons actually, even security believe it or not. But like i said, it cost more to develop new land vs rehabilitating existing.

If you want to go super cheap (and maybe risky), find a a nearby street that allows on street over night parking without a permit and take the bus in (or you could even walk from some parts). Newark and Elizabeth have street cleaning only once a week so you can get nearly a week of free parking. I think Roselle doesn't even have street cleaning.
