I use a large bucket with a lid and a kitchen garbage bag in it. No smell and I take it out once a week

I’m using Apple Maps, it’s like obsessed with being on the highway/main road even if that road is literally zigzagging across the state.
I think the best way seems to be 280-7-1and9?

When I moved into my own apartment with my cat I was gifted a litter genie and it changed my life! I put it onto all of my cat-owning friends and everybody loves it!!

To me it sounds like you're using Waze or something similar which is taking you some extremely convoluted route that shaves off only a minute or two off the total time.
There isn't really any shortcut or back-route to get to JC. That's kinda how it is. I'll get to the Newark area super quick (also from Morris) and then the transit time exponentially slows down as you get closer to JC because of all the traffic, particularly around the Holland Tunnel entrance. It's a traffic bottleneck.
The best solution I can think is if your family member is able to take the train or bus to Newark Broad Street. Cuts your driving time in half and is probably only a 10-15 minute ride from JC for the family member.

I second the litter genie. I bought a few extra boxes of bags but I might try the kitchen bag trick...

Sadly, our cat died before we ran out of old plastic bags.

I don't know how I'd approach that sandwich to take a bite without it spilling out in one great disaster...

Direct routes in NJ? You can't get there from here!
280.. to Fish House road.. keep going local. There's nothing faster, just bigger.

Taliercio’s is so good, but you gotta unhinge your goddamn jaw just to take a bite of their sandwiches

280 is what I took both times.. the first time I went think it took me to 95, the next time I took the Jersey City exit. Both ways I see myself doubling back/zig zagging all over the map. Is there no direct route in and out?

I used to use the litter genie but sometimes I'd wind up with not enough plastic to tie at the end of the roll, so I thought that was a bit wasteful. So, I switched to compostable bags (green):
Compostable Trash Bags, 2.6 Gallon Food Scrap Yard Waste Bags, 100 Count, Extra Thick 0.71 Mil.
The one drawback to these is that they're kind of flimsy so they don't stay open for you. But you can invert them and cover your hand and pick up stuff with them (quickly).
Once a week I'd empty out the litter box. I also used newspaper-based litter but my favorite was the grass seed type. I used to use sWheatscoop but it had bugs in it once and that turned me off. I think my cat was allergic to grass seed so that's why I switched to newsprint (Purina discontinued my favorite type of that so I had to make do with another). I don't like clay litters (how they smell and how they track all over).
My cat died yesterday so any cat talk is making me feel a bit better right now.

Tunnel traffic almost always slows that down at the 139 intersection, construction over the last 10 years hasn't made it faster...

Idk what your point is? I go from denville to Newark every morning in 30-40 minutes. I wasn’t expecting it to take another 30 minutes to go another 5–10 miles when the first 30 miles takes a half hour.

My digestive tract is liquefying as I look at the image. I can't eat deep-fried food, or I get incredibly sick for like 24 hours or so. Blessing and a curse, really. If I hadn't ended up this way, I'd probably have died of heart disease, or at least be a hundred pounds heavier.

From Summit to Newark (local streets) it takes almost 45 minutes without traffic. What are you expecting?
Have you tried I 280?
