This is great advice thank you. I’ll look into it! The agency I work for is clearly all about profits and they’re all mid to late 20s. Including me. And the hr is the founders wife. I’m sure u can assume the culture already.

Welcome to the neighborhood, you are in central Jersey! Atlantic Highlands is small but has all the best food. Kunya Siam has ruined us for any other Thai food. Cheesequake is said like it’s spelled, but a bastardized version of the Lenape language. Yup, lived in the area all my life, as me anything.

We live in the northeast. It sucks ass but part of our culture unfortunately. hustle and bustle

9-6pm has definitely become the standard. Especially since Covid and remote jobs. I work in sales and the markets I cover are FL and TX. They might as well be another country. My colleagues in those states ask "is this 24/7 work culture normal for you guys?"

It is, my friend. unfortunately it is.

I haven’t noticed that but if I were you I would read up on your rights. Since you’re working remotely your lunch break could qualify as a working lunch and therefore be paid since you’re not really leaving your place of work on your break. They also can’t mandate you to take a break either so them making you work 9-6 and assuming you’re taking an hours worth of breaks in the day would not be compliant from my understanding. Short breaks of less then 20 minutes are in fact paid and count towards your hours worked. While you may be salaried, you may be working overtime without realizing it and depending on your job and responsibilities you may not be exempt from overtime pay.

We’ve actually transitioned our work force to four 10 hour days, breaks included as paid. I wish that was more of the trend because the employees absolutely love it and independent studies have documented the benefits of it extensively.

But anyway don’t hesitate to contact the state DOL, I call them myself every so often with questions just to make sure we’re compliant as things change. They’re extremely helpful in all aspects.

Woah that’s kinda nice they didn’t care. Apparently mine used to watch ur screens all day but they recently stopped doing that 👌🏻 now that I’ve been onboarded my schedules way too busy anyways. Sometimes Idek if I can fit my break in. I’ll have to talk to them if they schedule too much for me..

Yeah, this is kinda common. I worked for a job that was 9-5:30 or 8:30 to 5 with 30 minute lunch. Some places also don't care. I can take a 2 hour lunch at my current job and no one would say shit.

Middlesex county, home of:

  • A community college with too much… MCC mofos
  • lightbulb city(my town)
  • donut town(town within my town)
  • a lot of brunswicks(iykyk)
  • a lot of golf courses
  • too many amazon buildings(2 in my town)

Context:

  • Middlesex College aka and fka “Middlesex County College” they may have changed the name, but still referred to as MCC
  • Edison
  • Metuchen (known as “the donut hole” because Edison surrounds Metuchen, the border goes through my house
  • New, North, South, East
  • I lost count of the courses
  • there is 1 or 2 in Carteret I think, 1 in/near Monroe, there’s 2 in Edison across the street from each other. That section of rt 27 with the 2 amazons and a FedEx building I refer to as the fulfillment district. Conveniently located near Walmart/Costco, pines manor and town hall.

Food scales my dude. Ideally coffee and water should always be weighed at a 1:15 - 1:20 ratio depending on your taste, meaning for every 15 grams of coffee there should be 225 - 300 grams of water (this produces 1 coffee). A French press typically brews up to 4 coffee (do the math). The problem with scoops is that there is no standard measurement and no two people scoop the same.

Not all drip machines are designed equally. There’s a whole bunch of factors here, including basket vs cone filters, brew temperatures, pooling and channeling, and the heat plate underneath the carafe burning your coffee. Your machine could be old and need to be descaled. This is why French presses are such a fool proof way to start out making better coffee.

As is learning that sometimes you can make time for you.

Hence the "as long as it's not abused" part of my comment. Of course you can't call out every time you have a deadline or a test or you're feeling a little stressed.

But the occasional "look, I'm not physically ill but I just need a day" is fine. It's exactly what people are already doing, except you don't need to hang your head upside-down over the side of your bed to make it sound like you have a cold when you make the call.
