Seems to be the same as Rahway’s downtown - they have some good Peruvian and Cuban restaurants (and a fun cigar bar) and seems like lots of people hanging about. They seem to be doing a great job

Yes! Thank you! That was it. They also sold a bunch of Christmas stuff which is why my mom would go there.

Before noon? The beach is closed until noon because they think you should be in church. https://www.oceangrove.org/visiting-the-beach. That’s messed up and an abuse of authority.

There was a store a little further up 22 that was nothing but hot tubs and outdoor furniture. I used to love going there.
Harrows I think? Something like that

The five UEZs are in: Bridgeton; Camden; Newark; Plainfield; Trenton.
State sales tax is exempted, among other benefits.

Thank you for posting this. There are so many toxic chemicals in our water in NJ. You can search your zip code on EWG's website (link below) to see how contaminated your water is. You don't need to pay or give them your email address. After years of spending money on refrigerator filters, I learned that my filter wasn't filtering out most of these toxins. I emailed my refrigerator company and they sent me a list of what their filters filter from water. I now use bottled water for drinking and cooking. EWG also will show you which filters work for filtering out toxins in your water. It's alarming.
Here is the link.

Make sure you fully consider the property taxes. They are bonkers in essex county.
Lots of nice towns a little further south with taxes that are less terrible

Ohhh explain that to me. Is that why so many shops and restaurants opened? Is it some sort of tax break?

It’s a fascinating place. I just have an issue with church groups telling me when I can swim in the ocean.

Reply to comment by Jagrmeister_68 in Fire destroys Paterson pickle factory; owners not relishing the idea of rebuilding by rollotomasi07071
Might've been that disgruntled employee who got fired for putting his gerkin into the pickle slicer; then again, it could be the pickle slicer too, since she was also fired.
It's Paterson, Jake: let it go

It is not your parent's or grandparent's Plainfield.
Park Avenue is bustling, as are the Xth Street shops going up towards 22.
I don't know if the designation is applied, but it is an urban enterprise zone; lots of shops and many different countries are represented.

I've been here:
https://goo.gl/maps/wUvSs4SyGip4f1dr6 (Portugal Express, just off Rt1 in Elizabeth) and here:
https://goo.gl/maps/rUQSHJp8XG5tTKDX7 (Ilobasco, Salvadorian, also just off Rt 1 Elizabeth)
in recent weeks. Impressed with both, good food moderately priced.
We also like
https://goo.gl/maps/PzPkEpRmbJnaVt8M9 (Sabor Colombiano, across Rt 1 from the other two) and my friend has recently opened a place upstairs at 90 Ferry st in Ironbound, above the Japanese restaurant. I'm sure it's pretty good.

Yes, I am really hoping for a Rahway/Cranford vibe in Plainfield. Many positive changes are happening here!
