So you'd be fine letting your kids run amuck in 1970s NYC? Or how about exploring outside designated safe areas in Mexico today? There's a difference between "toughing up the kids" and gross negligence. Even the most trustworthy kids... not safe at all unsupervised in AC.
AC is NOT a place for kids. Period. I get sketched out as a grown adult female. Especially at night. Especially after Covid, where there are long stretches of boardwalk without a safe haven to run into for several blocks.
My parents forced me to go to AC one year as a teen for summer vacation. I nearly died from boredom and parental anxiety/fear. But that was better than some of the possible alternatives.
Having been a victim of sexual abuse and harassment, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy, nervermind a human being I was actually responsible for.

Reply to comment by thebruns in Can someone explain the justification for having "private" beaches? It seems like access to natural attractions should be free. by SnooBooks4898
That’s actually not accurate. There’s a number of places that don’t have Lifeguards and, often beaches are set up as county or, state parks passing the costs to either the county or the entire state.

The 8'ish cops were arreated for robbing motorists while on duty and in uniform. Because they are/were cops they weren't charged with armed robbery, but other stuff. A bunch went to jail (little more than a slap). And the may have to serve some of their sentences. The police union helped them get some of their back pay and said they didnt "agree with their actions". Thats the closest those shit heads (police union) came to condemning the thug cops. Can anyone add/correct me?

Clifton is fine. Lots of shops and restaurants there, two really nice libraries, and a thriving, diverse community. A lot of South Asian families have moved there, so there's some really great food options.
Passaic is fine. Very Latino, and also very Orthodox Jewish, so again, some really solid food options. Some beautiful houses, lots of great restaurants, and Third Ward Park, with its little lake, is gorgeous.
Paterson, on the whole, is also fine. Some of the best restaurants in North Jersey are in Paterson, especially if you want Middle Eastern or Caribbean food. I eat in Paterson all the time.
I'm instantly wary of anyone who says Clifton, Passaic, and even Paterson are bad. What they really mean is "not white." I've had no problem shopping and dining in these places, and I've never felt unsafe driving through them at night. Get a fucking grip.

Love the cash relief but I wish the gov would do more to help out the poor and homeless. They miss out a lot even though they need the help the most
NJ is amongst the worst for inequality, yet amongst the richest of all states including DC. Our state could be thriving much more without the threat of poverty

I believe I read somewhere before that the police cannot pull you over and give you a ticket simply because you don’t have a front plate. However, the police may add this along with the other violations that cause you being pulled over.

Only if you count fifth rate pizza, a mugging, and hep-c as entertainment.

As someone who grew up in Passaic, I totally agree. I work with people who think poor and POC are dangerous. “Oh, I’d never drive through Passaic at night”
I had a nurse tell me she brought her daughter to the projects on a call to make the kid appreciate their lifestyle. I damn near quit.

I never think of the parkway. I always think of taking either 9 up through Somer’s Point or taking the island chain over Longport up to AC. Even then my estimation is off… 45 minutes tops.

Check out NJ Paddle on Instagram or Facebook. You’ll want to go when it’s warmer unless you have some thermal gear like a drysuit. The water temperature is still much colder than the air. May is when I would advise people that it’s safe.
Check the weather and the winds for the day. Round Valley is beautiful. Wear your PFD.
Check out neighboring lake Spruce Run. They are overcoming an algae bloom. The waters are rising again too from the precious drought.
