Very proud to participate in these. One of our priorities this year was to see how the plastic bag ban affected that type of pollution. Sad that I won’t be attending the one this April. If you can, sign up for the beach sweeps!!

The lady is vile but has anyone actually seen something happen when a change.org petition is started?

Ok well, several options come to mind.
Start drinking at bars, make friends.
Start going to meetups, make friends. The testicular cancer meetup is fun.
Start going to school in person.
Get a job, in person.
Start going to church (not something I would do but…)

I’ll be a nurse once I’m finished with school so it’s not much of a networking profession haha! I think joining the clubs is probably going to be what I will do. I haven’t found a whole lot of clubs, but I’ll keep looking.

Company-paid tickets are a decent perk; you generally get cheap tickets booked a month or so in advance, and there’s multi-trip ticket options (10 rides in a 45-day period) if you need to be last minute with which day you’re coming in. See r/Amtrak for more.
You’d be primarily taking the Northeast Regional or Acela, both are about as reliable as can be if all is well with the Hudson tunnels.
As far as travel time, that depends on where in JC you’d live and what time you’d need to get to Newark (or NYC) by.
Getting to Newark from JC is easiest if you live a short walk one of the WTC-Newark PATH stops (Journal Sq, Grove St, Exchange Pl). Weekday morning frequencies are around every 5 mins, and budget some time to get around in Newark Penn. It’s harder if you have a connecting bus to the PATH.
Otherwise, it’s not a bad option either to live in NYC and go via NY Penn. Two options for pretty similar cost, these days.

In the 2010s I was involved in a lot of beach sweeps and the plastic straw inventory was fascinating. There was a fuck ton of straws and you’d be able to sort the straws by dunkin , McDonald’s, Burger King etc. if I remember correctly we got the beach snack vendors to stop including straws in their drinks after showing them how many of their straws ended up in the sand.

Only to those with the lucky numbers. And you aren’t one of them. You’re paying.

I'm going to assume you're an adult. I haven't used a straw in 40 years. We can all drink from a cup

Thank you for this. As a parent to a happy child, this story was like a knife in the gut and I was hoping something like this would pop up.
