We recently had to clear out my mother-in-law's apartment. Things went a few different places...

  1. Electronics - I have video game collection, so I'm constantly selling old electronics on eBay to fund that hobby. So electronics went to me to resell.

  2. Furniture - We have a pretty active Buy Nothing Facebook group in our area and we were able to get rid of everything of hers except for a couch and her bed in a weekend. It can be a little hard to get people to show up promptly, but it wasn't really too much trouble and a lot of people were clearly happy with what they got.

  3. Housewares & Clothes - We ended up just dropping this stuff in some bins in a nearby church parking lot. If anything was 'great' then I probably would have added it to the Buy Nothing stuff, but most of the stuff was pretty old. Not 100% sure what happens to this stuff after it goes into the bin. Either gets donated places or ends up at a thrift store that generates money. Either way it's better than going in a landfill.

If we had more time and more need to get money for the stuff I probably would have had a garage sale first and then donate whatever didn't sell. Not sure it would have been worth the time. It's enough work just giving away a bunch of old crap!

If you have the option at FDU I'd take it (my alma mater), you won't find much under 1800 honestly. Madison is super close to Morristown where there is plenty nightlife and activities.

Parsippany is close to Whippany though and had many apartment options when I lived there back in the day.

I was hit by someone with NJM insurance and it took a full year to get any sort of payout from them even though she was 100% at fault according to my insurance & police, NJM claimed I was 25% at fault. They also only offered to pay 75% of repairs that were left to do AFTER I had already paid to make the car driveable, even though they are liable for that damage as well. It was IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of my claim rep and she only offered the full amount they’re liable for after I threatened her manager and the managers managers manager with a law suit. I can’t imagine their customer service for actual customers is any better.

My husband reseeded our lawn with this: Fleur De Lawn. We love it! Definitely noticed more bees and bugs in the lawn than before plus it’s beautiful. He was planning to just rent a tiller but we were able to find a decent one on Amazon. The whole project was a lot more work than was expected because of the grade of our yard, so we definitely would have spent more renting one.

People walking out of Lowes Depot with a cart full of RoundUp or the like to kill some weeds along with maybe, just maybe their kids, def worth it.

Yes yes, I know "we investigated ourselves and found nothing wrong, we just pay these lawsuits out of the pious goodness of our hearts"
