Lifelong Jersey resident. I’d recommend Metuchen, Highland Park, Cranford and the nicer parts of Piscataway for towns close to Plainfield, but would advise you to avoid the other towns mentioned.

There are absolutely better places for it than NJ though. Worse places too but we shouldn’t kid ourselves and not pretend NJ has a big problem with this, especially since we are so densely populated and urbanized.

Piscataway is a nice town, I lived there near the Dunellen border before moving to Memphis.

I just got turned down for a one bedroom garden apartment (not fancy) in Cranford, and I make 80,000 a year with great credit, the same job for 12 years and have never once in my life missed a rent payment. They said I need to make three times the rent NET which is ridiculous. The rent is 2095.00

My body shop told me that NJM is one of their two preferred insurance companies (along with MetLife) because NJM/MetLife don’t pressure the shop to use non-OEM or other cheaper parts/materials. I like knowing that my insurance company isn’t trying to save money at the expense of making things right.

I also had two claims within a couple of years (hit a deer, $12k in damages; car keyed, something like $2500) - I think my premium went up like $18/year.
