the wealthy pay much higher taxes in the form of property taxes. some houses around me that wealthy people rebuilt are paying close to $50,000 in taxes a year

this is the same taxes creep i've seen in NY. same with MTA funding. they add new taxes and raise more and it's always the wealthy who never seem to pay enough and pay the most. or the MTA needs taxes from the rich or it will shut down and the taxes and fees keep increasing and the MTA is always in trouble with their big projects that are boondoggles

Not gonna lie... I used to habit once in a while while working to walk in Manhattan of just tapping a fender when someone did this shit. Until a guy got out of a livery cab and tried with an NYPD camera right there (he even pointed to it as evidence of me damaging his car - with an open palm - OK, dude), then proceeded to try and pummel me. Fortunately I was a runner at the time.

It did remind me though, just like in a car itself, you don't know what the person in the other car is thinking.

Yeah, I actually considered it (as I said in OP this was right in front of HQ), except I got a bad vibe about walking into their territory with him right there. Not saying anything would happen, but I was kind of not in the mood for anything *to* happen.

If you think Desantis is insane, you're kidding yourself. He's essentially the Tucker Carlson of actual politics. He understands what his base wants and uses it, but is completely different behind closed doors. He might be a manipulative asshole, but he's far from crazy.

Murphy is the exact same liar. He calls himself a progressive and capitalist in the same sentence, while quietly letting huge tax breaks go back into effect:

https://newjerseymonitor.com/2023/03/02/plan-to-let-tax-on-businesses-expire-draws-progressive-ire/#:~:text=Phil%20Murphy%20unveiled%20Tuesday%20would,year%20that%20begins%20July%201.

I'm even conflicted as to who is more dangerous...or maybe it's pointless to compare the danger between a wolf and a lion. Desantis clearly has a war on the marginalized, but Murphy is part of the ultra-wealthy that has been fighting a war against the middle class for decades. Both have increased misery in the country by untold amounts.

florida was nice until a few years ago when they allowed scam roofers to sue insurance companies into BK and now home insurance is like $10,000 and you need a new roof every few years and there is only the state insurer. the republicans there literally turned the insurance industry into socialism there

I'd move to texas if I had the chance or the western carolinas too

I always loved the ceiling at Mill Creek. It was those shiny slats of white and silver and you can see how the Caldor sign reflects off it in the photo. This mall died very young….it had an amazing food court and was just super convenient for people who lived and worked in the area. This Foodtown was one of the nicest I ever have been to.

Now all Secaucus has is a Walmart for a grocery store. What a decline in fortunes. Ugh Walmart.
