I really wish more people would see comedians as performers playing characters and not necessarily people talking about their own hilarious lives.
Ricky Gervais talks about this pretty explicitly in his most recent special. One of my favorites is when Daniel Tosh says in one of his shows “My girlfriend is Asian…for this next joke.”

I've read about stores using this tactic in the past to prevent folks from loitering in front of their business.
