Reply to Philly Today: City So Desperate for Lifeguards That It's Recruiting People Who Can't Swim by deep_blue003v
To save anyone a click -- people who can't currently swim are allowed to apply. The city will then offer free lessons and instruction, and the people will still need to test into the lifeguard program.
Now, I have NO IDEA if it's reasonably possible to teach a non-swimmer how to swim well enough in 4 months that they can be a lifeguard. My guess would be no, but I don't know.

I think Firefly got successful because it was cancelled. No one I know including myself even heard about the show until it was canned then decided to check it out.

I finally bought the books on my kindle to fit the hole the cancelled show left behind. I'm enjoying them a lot but since the series followed the books pretty loosely I'm interested in where the show was going next.

Agreed! Sadly the kids have aged by now and it's impossible to continue without recasting or jumping the storyline into the future.

Shows are canceled for emotional or petty business reasons all the time

Left unsaid, pretty much all of those add-ons would make it no longer street legal, and no insurance company would possibly be willing to take the risk on a driver who buys an offensive vehicle for common use. These are a dumb novelty item for the too-rich-to-live crowd and are fated to live in the third bay of mini-mansion garages across the red-belt.
