In the UK, it’s illegal for any member of the public to carry a lethal or non-lethal self-defense weapon. The maximum sentence for possessing a weapon in the UK is 6 years in prison, whilst possessing firearms is 10 years. This includes pepper spray, any knife, or other weapon for self-defense. Any knife you can cary that opens one handed and locks...illegal. pepper spray...illegal to use. Your only option is to be faster or stronger than your attacker. Period.

From my job: really good that my large, international employer focuses on diversity and everyone feeling like they have no obstacles because of gender, sexuality, colour,... However, targeting 40% women in technical/engineering positions by 2025 when it's currently 30% and only 20% of graduates in engineering are women, is letting your perfectly fine ideas of equality run over the reality of the situation.

Also from my job: I've been denied an internal training because 'we are looking for a more diverse group'. Aka, we already have a few white men so we will now deny 70% of our workforce in light of 'diversity and equality'.

Oh or better! A big city in Belgium has publicly stated that if multiple applicants for a job have the same qualifications, they will chose the one from a minority group. Again, everyone deserves a job, but you can't justify obvious discrimination because it's not against a minority.

The more you read on the story the crazier it gets. He's a "pastor", working with at-risk people fighting addiction issues...while being a drug dealer. He is married, but lives with his GF in one town while his wife and MIL live with 14 convicted sex offenders! It's just a whole lot of "Are you f'n kidding me?!" moments.

Yes, Chinese law enforcement is notoriously fair and even-handed.

> The US has had similar laws on the books in various states against infidelity, oral sex, and so on that just don't get enforced.

Had laws that weren't enforced versus have laws that are enforced is a huge difference.
