My dad was an administrator at Montefiore back in the old, old days, long before administrators got the mega salaries they get nowadays. He was an old-school socialist - started a bunch of free clinics across the Bronx and organized the first hospital at Rikers. He was instrumental in helping 1199 start at Montefiore (late 1950s).

He ended up getting fired because the board wanted to move to the sort of semi for-profit/HMO model in vogue the past few decades.

He would be happy to see this. Indeed, he'd probably have let them use his office to organize on the down low.

I'm a chip off the old block, so --> ❤️

Medicare pays over 100k to hospitals per resident just for literally having them there, not even accounting for the work they do. A third year resident physician at Montefiore makes 77k. So yeah, the hospital can afford to increase their pay and benefits, to say nothing of working conditions.

The only reason hospitals get away with this is the ACGME (accredits physician residency) has made it so doctors are (1) matched into a program and then (2) absolutely cannot leave the program if they want to become licensed. It's absolutely insane. I bet your employer would pay you less and treat you like shit too if your options were to work there or go find a totally new career after 8+ years of education and hundreds of thousands in student loans.

Cuba does indeed send doctors overseas! The fact this tiny sanctioned island nation recovering from decades of slavery which has been invaded by the US, can still have enough healthcare to provide medical aid to other nations, shows just how good this system is.

Cuba has the most doctors per person and by quite a bit. The US however, has less doctors per person than North Korea and Mexico… yikes.

I will never get over the decision to not pay hard ball with Dolan a decade ago and force him to move right across 8th ave then.

Instead Dolan renovated MSG in its current location directly atop all of the train platforms for the cost it took to build Barclays and then $1.6 billion was spent to build Moynihan in the space across 8th ave where it can't access all the platforms and can only access the end of the platforms it does connect to.

Something tells me that you've never been to Cuba. Most Cuban doctors either sign up for the Cuban government to send them overseas where they can make more money, or they leave and go overseas themselves to send back money to their families. You've got a warped view of the world and should probably get out, get a job, see it for yourself.

WRONG

1.3 of 1.7 billion from the state was purely contingent on reaching 25,000 employees, the remaining would scale if they exceed that number, with 40,000 to get the full 1.7 billion

Amazon also had to build 2 job training centers, a school, improve two subway strips, provide communal green space ...from that the city and state pledged 5 million each towards the job training

1.3 from the city, only part of it was not contingent on the jobs through reduced rent

It’s not a “road” is a massive arterial highway that is falling down. They should have ready to go plans on the shelf like Moses did so when an opportunity arises they can jump on it quickly. Construction work was one of the necessary jobs like grocery stores and first responders IIRC and it was outdoors so it was pretty safe.

That one point is the only part of what she said that’s even up for debate. The rest is just literally simping for a dictator (Putin) and calling Ukraine’s post-Maidan government fascist.

It’s just the usual “everything the west does is imperialism and bad” drivel you get from certain morons on the left.
