I find that if its a dive bar you can just go in and out without issue.

Yeah, I’m not clicking that either, but if it’s as bad as you say it is and it’s caused by someone intentionally hurting these cats, there is nothing bad enough in human existence that can happen to this person/these people.

>And imagine taking hospitals at face value that residents don't provide value. That is, on its face, a stupid claim.
It's the reason why the resident system was created in the first place. Hospitals didn't want to pay fresh doctors anything originally. It was a hastle to have them around at all.
The American Medical Association, created this system so fresh new doctors could get paid something even if they aren't actually adding much value during the time they're learning their trade, because of the time needed to train them and the increased liability.
> Residencies are traditionally hospital-based, and in the middle of the twentieth century, residents would often live (or "reside") in hospital-supplied housing. "Call" (night duty in the hospital) was sometimes as frequent as every second or third night for up to three years. Pay was minimal beyond room, board, and laundry services. It was assumed that most young men and women training as physicians had few obligations outside of medical training at that stage of their careers.
It's why they're called residents. It's necessary for the first few years of work to be extended training because no one wants to send fresh medical school grads directly into patient work by themselves.
But on the other hand, said workers are barely worth anything to the institutions because they need their hands held.

Absolutely. People let their guard down a lot more in suburbia. One of many reasons I won’t go back lol.

And as a parent I gotta imagine it’s nice knowing that even if your kid is getting into somewhat reckless behavior, they won’t be in a car. For all the concerns I hear about crime or any possible increased likelihood of drugs/alcohol, I never had any of my contemporaries growing up die, whereas everybody I know from suburbia/rural areas had at least a couple kids around their age die in car crashes.

I grew up in the suburbs and this is something I’m really excited about for my kids. No pressure to drive, and they can walk to a bunch of places (or take a bus or train to the rest).

I've literally never heard of having to pay at a bar to use the bathroom. I know plenty of people who walk in use it and walk out...

I've never seen a bar require you order a drink before using the bathroom.

I'm just telling you why the system exists in the first place.
Hospitals didn't want residents at all.

Nor should they. Decades of MTA financial mismanagement has only worsened since Covid. How about new leadership and board from the top down? That’s a good start.

I guess we'll just (checks notes) round up all of the homeless people in the city and "disappear" them so then we can install public bathrooms. Sounds like a great final solution you have there.

Yeah, just sort of had this fiction, city boys running around, biking, having a good a time during school hours while parents are working hard and stuff. Somethin out of a 90s movie lol.
Also as for the friends part… definitely always wanted that life as a kid… man, those must’ve been the times…

>The five Portland Loo toilets, made by an Oregon-based metal firm, cost roughly $185,000 each, according to a Parks Department spokesperson.
>But the overall budget to buy and install five Portland Loos, in one pilot location in each borough, starting as early as summer 2024, could reach as much as $5.3 million.
It's $185k to buy. The rest is the operation and maintenance. They need to run electric and plumbing to them.

I'm thinking of mixed residential/commercial/food, not a contained happy hour places. Though I agree that Stone Street is a nice place, though much quieter than it used to be pre-pandemic.
