That's the most damning thing to me. I was skeptical of the story mostly due to denial as this was a place I loved in college but after working in restaurant industry and how easy it is to game even an A rating, even a B grade means there is A LOT of problems

I didn't say it means they cooked the rat, but it does cast doubt on their press statement of being squeaky clean victims and that everything is okay with the restaurants safety. Btw rat droppings is more than just bad, it's grounds for getting shut down

Reply to comment by ChrisFromLongIsland in NYC Subway Fare over last 120 years adjusted for inflation by dust1990
The fares should NOT cover the total cost of the system. No transit system works like that.
The simple fact is that transportation has to be subsidized, it can't ever be "profitable". And that's all transportation, even private car usage is heavily subsidized.
One of the big reasons public transit sucks in this country is that we keep demanding that it be profitable, all while not demanding the same from other forms of transport (aka, the car industry).

Exactly. The true harm reduction is not to take street drugs in the first place. That is a sure fire way to and fent poisoning. People should know the risk by now, this isn’t new.

I mean it went from $1.75 100 years ago to $2.75. That's not a huge increase

Without pulling the data, yes that’s what I would expect. It’s still a relative bargain especially considering it’s not a zoned system like other systems (London, Tokyo, etc.)

>The 1998 Internet Tax Freedom Act is a United States law authored by Representative Christopher Cox and Senator Ron Wyden, and signed into law as title XI of Pub. L. 105–277 (text) (PDF) on October 21, 1998 by President Bill Clinton in an effort to promote and preserve the commercial, educational, and informational potential of the Internet. The law bars federal, state and local governments from taxing Internet access and from imposing discriminatory Internet-only taxes such as bit taxes, bandwidth taxes, and email taxes. It also bars multiple taxes on electronic commerce.

Bro, the place has had a C rating with 79 points worth of violations since the previous inspection that took place in January of this year:

You should be able to take the AirTran from Jamaica LIRR station to terminal 8 - then go to arrivals floor and people usually come out from only one door area from customs/luggage so you if you get there earlier you’ll be able to spot him.

Reply to comment by casanovaelrey in NY lawmakers say they won't support MTA's planned fare hike for commuters by King-of-New-York
Don’t forget the corporate parent of the MTR has massive real estate holdings in HK which they use to fund operations and expansions. A bit hyperbolic but it would be like if the state gave the MTA Hudson Yards before it was built and told them profits from building there must go towards the subway.

Could you plot median real wages against subway fare increases? E.g. if the average cost of a ticket has gone from $1.50 to $3 over 100 years, but the average real wages have tripled, the cost would be lower, correct?

JFK is a big ass airport and I wish I could help you but every time I’m over there I usually ask the employees there for help and they’re usually good about it.

We’re on the same side here. But if you’re going to write something in the first sentence of your first paragraph about two beloved musical heroes who died of ODs, and claim it’s b/c of fent-laced fake pills, I’m going to call BS on that because no one knows the details. I don’t want misinformation spread.

I’ll consider it. Median would probably be a better measure. Real wages definitely have gone up since 1904 though less so post 1980s. Open to suggestions on what you want to see.
