The fact that a huge number of riders don't pay contributes to this

No, they are saying it was $1.75 for everything, now it's $8.25 and you pay a third ($2.75).

The pandemic created a food shortage for the rats and then it became survival of the fittest.

Sometime lobbies do things that are a net positive, like this.

Arrivals is the floor above or below departures. I can’t remember which is which, but either way you can access it by stairs, escalator, or elevator.

You don't have to cite literature, I've done more than my fair share of reagent tests during my partying days.
You're misunderstanding me though. I agree with you that the tests will tell you whether there's fent in whatever you use them on. My point is that's only useful for a press which (usually) has (some) consistency in how the active ingredient is distributed, but not for a powder where there's zero way of telling whether the rest of the bag is cross-contaminated.
That said, I also don't think they're particularly useful for pills. They won't tell you whether there's a hotspot in what you're about to consume; only whether there's fent. And anyone buying pills off the street these days already knows they're cartel presses which contain fentanyl. Putting your life in the hands of the Sinaloan hillbillies that make these pills is foolish and inexcusable unless you're already deep in the throes of addiction.

Why? What makes NYC so special that makes us different from every single other major city on the planet? This kind of attitude is exactly the reason why everything is so damn slow and expensive in this city. Why do people insist on continued mediocrity over progress and improvement?

There's an interesting book about the early subway called Uptown/Downtown.

Most of the hate crime hoaxes dont have white “victims”
We had smollett who is black
That muslim girl who claimed she got junped by trump fanatics for wearing a hijab on a crowded nyc train… and then admitted she made that up to get away with breaking curfew.
Etc.
Although i do find the idea of a white grandpa writing “black people rule” on his shit and trying to claim a hate crime hysterical

I live in an expensive suburb right next to a wood. Field rats dug a tunnel under my garbage shed. Had to demo the shed and get a fully contained shed from Costco. Now, I have field mice that winter in my attic. Didn’t know brick homes have weep holes. I put a few jars of pepper mint oil up there. And filled the weep hole with copper wool. Not to mention the other critters that stop by like: squirrels, raccoons, skunks, chipmunks, groundhog, deers, stray cats, lizards, newts, shrews, and coyotes.

New York State itself, 39% of adults report sleeping an average of under 7 hours a night, compared to the U.S. average of 35%. So it's def up there! Definitely not as bad as the meth belt, though.
Edit to add: I'd love any insights on why this is the case!

I might've taken those odds if they didn't have a C rating. Even the dirtiest placest can manage a B. C rating restaurant food must be served straight from the trash. That said, there's a chance the customers did it for that reason.

Super helpful, thanks—this Is what I wanted to do, but there is no way to program arrivals for your drop-off spot on Uber.

The Uber can drop you off at arrivals too.. Tell them you are there to meet someone arriving. If its international it can take 30mins for train to taxi and deboard so don't get despearete. Alos don't get desperate if the cell signal is spotty. Arrivals are usually on bottom and departures on top. There is usally stairs and escalators if you need to switch. Ive picked up my kids from JFK about a dozen times over the years. Don't get too worked up. Make sure you phone is fully charged and ask your kids to charge their phone too in flight if possible

Hi! Appreciate you weighing in here, this is an important reminder of some very common misconceptions. Fentanyl test strips actually do work for non pressed substances and non opiates. Happy to cite some literature if that would be helpful, but some basic googling will confirm this for you.
It’s also important to remember that FentCheck and drug testing in general is a harm reduction practice. Just “not using” is not harm reduction, it’s abstinence and it doesn’t work for everyone. It’s important to make lots of different resources available since there isn’t one universal solution, the same as their isn’t one universal experience of drug use. We shouldn’t limit what others can access based on what works for us personally.

Wow. Can’t even fathom the city trying to dictate what a private company could charge today. Thanks for sharing

Yes. The BMT, IRT, and IND were companies. Some had buses too, but the city legislated the fare the could charge.
