As pointed out below, you're simply wrong on the point that farebox recovery can't ever fund the system.

That would make it worse. Most of the major roads/main arteries are already only 2 lanes wide if that. A majority of the time you have to serve in and out cause people are doubled parked or straight up illegally parked in one of the lanes lol

OP, if you get bored, I’d love to see another line showing overall ridership during the same period, but this is already great as it is so no pressure

They need to remove more car lanes and build bike lanes.

It’s funny I know there is a lot of cops and firefighters in Staten Island. But growing up I only knew of 2 kids who’s fathers were a cop or firefighter.

A combination of commute times, a lot of people with kids and a huge part of the borough working a blue collar job where if they aren’t at work they don’t get paid.
Even if you’re the lucky few who get to live and work a reasonable job on the island traffic is a nightmare. The islands road layout wasn’t built for 500k + people. It can take you a good hour or better to get from one side of the island to the other on a moderate traffic day. It sometime takes me longer to get to my parents crib in the middle of the island by car then it does to get to midtown.
The road problem might be a lost cause there’s no way to fix that without demoing peoples properties. But more train routes within the island at the very lease will help a lot.

I get static here for preferring a more suburban type of neighborhood in Queens. I don't see rats.
My fig, apple and pear trees bear delicious fruit, and the low population density means less abundant food sources for vermin, and less vermin as a result. In addition, the owls from nearby parks scour the woods for critters. My cat helps to insure that mice don't come in.
My problem is birds eating my figs. I have it easy!

New Yorkers are the biggest whiners on the planet. $2.75 is a very reasonable price to pay for MTA service. It would also be fine if they raised it to $3.

Define "permanently". I live in Hollis Estates. I often drive to either Forest Hills or ozone Park and take the E/F or A. Are you suggesting that I can't park in those areas because I don't live there? WE're not near any trains out here.
How will the shopkeepers along Union Turnpike manage if they can't park near their shops? How will the schoolteachers get to work at 7:30a? What about the St John's staff and commuters? How will this work?

No, I'm not going to approve of residential permits. No, I don't care what other towns do across America. I'm open to NYC parking permits to limit outsiders from driving and taking up parking, but no neighborhood restrictions.
You bought or rented out your apartment knowing full well you wouldn't have parking. Now you want free perks lol. Sell your car.

Interesting. I wonder if cats would do better, or if the rats would adapt to evade them too

There is no way that 30% of the traffic in the city is people "circling for parking".

They charge £6.70 minimum too if you pay with cash, which I did the first time I took a train there in 2019 :( from King's Cross to Old Street, just a couple stops, equivalent to $8.16.

Seems like they can’t cut service because of the public outcry too. Seems like there are always people at board meetings complaining about every modification of service. As a general rules, seems to me the public only want more service, not less.
