Brick buildings at the time these were erected would have also been called an eyesore and not fitting with the "historic" look. Mass produced brick allowed for cheaper, mass-produced homes to come up and replace the older buildings, and we should be doing the same instead of holding onto an outdated building form factor.

For the longest I have heard music (think it’s jazz of sorts?) playing in the Nolita area during midday. I don’t know which building it’s coming from, but I hope this reaches the right person/people because you are brilliant, makes my day every time!!! If you’re ever looking for audience, would love the opportunity

Yea. I mean I'll check out Whole Foods like once a month for my produce and cheese fix. Being Asian American, I have to source my grocery runs from a variety of markets.

When I don't feel like making the trek to Manhattan but in need of my Asian groceries for one stop shopping, it'll be J Mart & nearby Asian grocers. Some of their items are overpriced. It is what it is.

This happened to me recently too - I left my navy Bonobos jacket at a bar in Astoria, and when I came back to get it a few weeks later, it had somehow transformed into a black Banana Republic jacket. I'd like my jacket back, but I don't think the other person is likely to bring it back at this point - they had already gotten the choice of both and took mine, I have to assume!

I lived in Sunnyside for years and my wife grew up there for over 30 years. Cars have never and will never be prioritized there so not sure what’s up with your comment. Most recently they put in more citi bikes on 39 st and 41 st and green point. A neighborhood like little neck with no parking is ridiculous….

Interesting article. There is a higher percentage of cops by population in Staten Island though. 10% of cops live there compared to 16% in Brooklyn but Brooklyn has over 5x as many people as SI so they have more cops per capita.

Practicing Catholic here. (Yes we still exist.) The sisters will likely be sharing a modest home on a small portion of the property. Most of the spending will likely go towards guests quarters and the Chapel. Monasteries are a place where many Catholics go to pray and retreat in silence.

Meanwhile teachers have to beg for one or two hours of OT each week to complete tasks that they cannot complete during the workday because we have so much other BS to deal with.
