If this goes down then my guess is everyone’s fair game. You know that, you just hate Trump so much your blinded by the consequences. AOC and Obama have both run afoul of campaign finance laws and not faced prosecution. There will be a call to indict them as well, equal application of the law would demand it. Right?

Trumps a dirt bag, but this obsession with trying to get him on something just emboldens his followers. This will be disastrous.

just because you don't give a shit about material culture and holding the powerful to account doesn't mean anybody else does. within the realm of anthropology, museums and cultural work, the man has an extremely good reputation right now. I'm all for decriminalization of sex work and the end of cash bail though, I guess if you like people getting locked up before even getting to see a jury or "crimes" that don't hurt anyone, we're not gonna see eye to eye.

it not just going after trump, it's how he actually follows through on his promises better than any other boroughs' DA. It's how he prosecutes artifact theft to an extent unprecedented in virtually any other jurisdiction. if you're gonna be prosecuting in one of the richest court districts in the country, why shouldn't you be going after those who have money to lose who've been able to buy themselves out of trouble in the meantime?I got heat for most any politician in this city and I live to complain, but I don't have any for him and none of these responses has given me any reason to doubt him.

Thanks for this! I have to pull city data on properties all the time for my job (ie., residential vs commercial sqft, assessed value, etc.) this platform is nice to have all the data in one place as the city’s Zola platform only has use data and we have to look up tax info separately through DOF. Might I suggest being able to look up properties by their BBL and also export data in excel format? I know others in my industry would be interested in testing this further.

TL:DR Arrest Charges and Arraingment charges are not the same thing and journalists should be better

I can explain the apparent discrepancy. “Charging” is a two step process, and each step is done by a different agency. The first is the Police, who make the arrest. On the police paperwork they will put what they arrested you for. Now, generally, the police are going to put the highest charges they believe fit the facts of what they know right in the moment. Also, Police Officers are not attorneys.

After this we move to the second step, which involves the second agency: The District Attorneys Office. A prosecutor is assigned the case, and will interview both the police officers involved, and the victim. At this point, an actual lawyer reviews the facts, and makes the decision as to what appears on the document put before the judge.

So, what happened here (and this is all base speculation) is the police responded, they have a female complainant with visible injuries, and making statements. They arrest Mr Majors based on that and charge what they can in the moment. Once the case got the the DA office (probably between 6-10 hours later), a lawyer took a look at what they had, and reduced the charges accordingly.

This isn’t meant to be an apologetic for the system, but this is how both of those statements you identified can be true.
