Tenant and eviction protections raise the costs to landlords, which will trickle down to tenants in increased rent.
This increased cost more heavily burdens small landlords, who eventually sell to larger landlords who can operate and have the advantage of scale and better lawyers

One time I asked them for help. After stumbling to get out of focus from their sudoku, they were actually really helpful. But I don't know what their purpose actually is since people comfortably jump the turnstile in front of them all the time.

Because the agents will be sitting on the floor with no booths to protect them.
(Not seriously, and I'm not sure if this is the joke Thtguy1289_NY intended)

You literally provided an anecdote as if that negates their anecdote... 🤦♂️
To add more anecdotes, I've been to Moynihan roughly a dozen times, and probably 3 of those times the screens weren't working properly. I'd be curious to see data on how often the system breaks down. A shit ton of money went into this, we deserve better.

It literally is a mall, just one with trains. The only hint that’s this is a train station are the three small train track screens.

Thank you! I strongly echo your sentiment. The upgrades to Penn Station and more recently, the new expansion to Grand Central, are horrible.

I remember now, that you could see downtown Manhattan if you looked off to the side b Your artwork is so awesome. I bet if you did have a chance to visit the torch (it was actually opened to the public in the early years, until 1916 I believe) you would make another great piece.

They should not be fired, they should be offered new positions and retraining within the MTA. Protect their salaries too so they don’t lose anything, but make them do something productive. It is absurd that the union is protecting literal do-nothing jobs.

LIRR conductors are worse. The agency spends an average of $200k per conductor on salary and benefits, and the job literally involves you walking up and down the train and scanning fucking QR codes. A local moron off the street can do that job.
The MTA should install fare gates on commuter railroads, downsize the conductor workforce, and use the remaining conductors to spot check... even with the fare beating increase it'll save money over paying people to do the same work.

Yeah unions are not always good. Look at the police or teachers unions. Reddit just likes unions a lot for some reason.

Y’all seen a station agent do anything?
All they do is say “no” or play on their phone.
Even with turnstile scofflaws, they don’t get off their chairs.
It must be the easiest gig in the city.
It’s no wonder the waitlist is a decade long for employment
