Reply to As New York Pays Out Millions In Police Misconduct Settlements, Lawmakers Ask Why They Keep Happening by brooklynlad
Remember folks ... 1992 city hall riots. When a civilian complaint review board was proposed by Dinkins. A bunch of drunk off duty cops mobbed around city hall calling Dinkins a N***er and wanting to lynch him, backed by Giuliani and PBA. Folks have forgotten about sadly ....

If you want more natural light than this then the city needs to eminent domain all of MSG for a lot of money.

I've been curious how they deal with manholes when doing this.

I am from New Jersey and I have used NYPS to commute from upstate (where I went to university) and from Brooklyn (where I now live) since 2009, commuting for work to Long Island. NYPS has tons of issues, it's terrible, gross, ugly, disorganized, the tunnels need extensive rehabilitation. BUT! I have never seen the track screens not working.
My main gripe with Moynihan is that it was such an expensive and exhaustive project (even the PM architect killed himself during construction) is that it has an EXTENSIVE screen display. There are screens literally on every column and surface...and not one could show the track. But best believe the blinding red Verizon sign was working.
I have a lot of issues with the architecture and infrastructure in the city. And the majority isn't asking what will make commuting easier...but what will make it flashy.

Not to mention the fact that housing prices in California are insane (much like NY) that over the last decade or so plenty of middle class homeowners who were able to get in when houses were affordable became millionaires simply because their house shot up hundreds of thousands of dollars in value.

The real reason for the location is the Port Authority owns the land and used post 9/11 support to build a very expensive underground mall under the guise of rebuilding a PATH station that was destroyed on 9/11.

They will lose any money they sent (some auctions require a deposit when registering, buyers premiums will be due very soon after the auction closes), and they will probably be blacklisted from registering for future auctions.

They were helpful when I was in HS and didn’t have my metrocard, or just lied. They always held it down.

We are at the phase of US decline where we rename shit forever instead of doing any actual systemic change. What we need… is more public bathrooms, but he’s, let’s rename everything for no reason just because of the word comfort. This is so infuriatingly dumb.

Reminds me of when the American Medical Association put out a guide to “more inclusive language” for doctors and nurses that included recommendations like not saying “combat disease” anymore because of “violent connotations” that could upset some people.
But the AMA made no mention of things like abortion rights or universal healthcare (they oppose it) which would make actual meaningful differences for people. What’s more upsetting? Hearing the term “combat” or being forced to carry your rapist’s baby? Or not being able to afford life-saving medical care? 🤔

$7 billion to $10 billion was the cost of the plan that would involve removing all of MSG and also tearing down and redeveloping the whole area around the station. The developer, Vornado, that would redevelop around the station is backing out of that plan because the demand for office space is lower post-pandemic.
This image is from a new proposal that just removes the theater. They haven't announced the cost of this plan yet.

If they were quarried locally, about 450 million years old.
