Hi all,

My wife and I are in our early 30s. We have one teenager at ahome. By and large, my teenager and I are great drivers (no speeding tickets, no infractions, etc.). However, my wife is a bit of speed chaser. We recently got an electric vehicle, and the ability to suddenly accelerate has not helped her 'heavy foot' tendency. While she had one minor speeding ticket in 2021, she had a more serious one in 2022 (where she was pulled over in our home state of WA for going 40 mph over the speed limit). We paid the hefty fine for this at the time.

Our insurance carrier, Connect by American Family (Costco insurance), recently called us to let us know that they would not renew our auto insurance in April 2023 based on my wife's driving history. We are moving to Maryland in March 2023, and I need a vehicle to commute into DC every morning and evening. A few questions: (1) What can I do to continue to be able to drive, as well as my teenager? (2) By moving to Maryland from WA, will anything change? (3) Are other insurance companies likely to also deny coverage to the rest of the family? (4) Are there any steps that my wife can do to mitigate the effect to our auto insurance? (5) Is there anything else that you would suggest? And yes, my wife and I have had stern conversation that she has a speed problem, so I'm looking more for advice that is helpful for the purposes of our family being able to drive.

Thank you in advance!
