UPDATE: after doing much research I found a law firm that I feel comfortable with. After a phone consultation and a plan of attack I feel this 10 year weigh off my shoulders. THANK YOU to everyone of you who gave me your advice or encouragement. I truly appreciate it. Today is day one without that stress and anxiety.
I've been ignoring this for so long because im so scared but I finally have to face it because im getting close to 40 and need to be able to use my proof of income for stuff.
This is in Florida by the way.
I've been paid 1099 for installing windows for 10 years. The first year a family member was supposed to help me but she literally just took my money. I've been a orphan since 16 so I don't have any parents to go to.
The first 5-6 or so years I only made like 30k ish. Nothing huge. But in 2020 I did 55k, 2021 I did 60k and 2022 I did 85k Before this job I was w2 and got a return.
I remember reading a story where some guy didn't pay for 10 years then he was able to work out a deal with the IRS for a nice discount. Is that the fresh start program?
I haven't gotten any mail from the IRS yet. I guess it's called an audit?
I'm terrified to go to some generic tax company because im worried they won't do anything for me and their inquiry will red flag me and put me in the IRS's attention then without any help ill be really screwed.
I have around 25-30k saved in cash. Acouple cheap cars and I rent an apartment.
Has anyone gone through this and what did you do?
Thank you very much for reading all this.
