I’m 25 and stuck with a not so good parent. I am financially dependent on her so she’s labeling me as her dependent to get a higher tax return. That’s all well but she’s saying I don’t need to file my 1099s that I received from my self employment job and my fidelity investment dividends since she’s claiming me as a dependent. She keeps insisting I’m her dependent and it’s not a W2 form. Is this true? Unfortunately her being a not so good parent means I can’t file it myself and I’m under the impression she’s trying to steal my tax return but I can’t say or do much without getting kicked out unfortunately.
Edit: I was 25 on Dec 2022. I made 5900 in royalties from my self employment job. And about 100 from dividends from Fidelity.
Edit 2: Got into a big argument with her. She’s refusing to let me file and has me as a dependent. She keeps saying the 1099-misc doesn’t count as earned income that needs to be reported so me making more than 4400 doesn’t matter. Follow up question: would I be able to file in secret? She has control of my social security so I'd imagine she has her emails linked to any changes that might happen so that last thing I’d want is to file and have her notice and kick me out.
