3K a month is my take-home pay after a 10% (unmatched) contribution to an IRA, and health insurance premiums. I pay about $150 for auto and rental insurance.
Not many other major expenses, but I have medical issues which result in me hitting my OOPM of $5K every year.
I am not sure what my food budget is, but it’s probably high. Due to aforementioned medical issues, I have almost no desire to eat, which leads to eating out when I realize I’m crashing and need food *now*, as well as more expensive easier to prepare meals. I am trying to get back into cooking but a lot of it goes off because I don’t eat it quickly.
The $850 one bedroom is in a more desirable area and means no roommates. The $650 is a basement so still pretty private but the house is pretty run down. I would have one roommate, with the possibility of adding a second which could bring rent as low as $500.
To me, that is a huge difference in price. Family and friends are advising me to take the one bedroom.
I am exiting a really bad relationship where I have been largely supporting someone else which has drained my savings, left me feeling financially insecure, and also made it challenging to get a feel for *my* expenses.
