Hi everyone. I need advice.

I’ve been working at a company for 10 years, straight out of college. I’ve committed many years to them because I was able to grow into better positions and take on more responsibility.

Recently due to the economic shifts, they decided to heavily downsize the company in all departments, including mine. I was notified that I was being offered a new position under a new boss with a new title that would require weeks of training and essentially triple the work load of what I’m currently doing. Not only this, but instead of working remotely I would be required to commute to office daily as well as making the same amount of income.

Seeing as how there is no upside to accepting the new position, I said no thank you I would like to stay in my current position which my boss followed up in saying that isn’t possible because that position is not going to exist anymore.

Therefore I accepted the fact that I was being let go at the end of the month and we left it at that.

Now, that same boss is requesting I send a resignation letter to finalize the paperwork. My understanding is that the implication is that I am quitting the job which means I won’t be able to collect benefits once I am unemployed where in reality I feel I am being forced to leave .

I don’t have anyone to talk to about this and appreciate any advice on how to proceed so that I can guarantee unemployment benefits while I find a new job.

Thanks in advance !
