I mean I was saying this in 2012. Philly looked up and coming and very trendy then, especially neighborhoods like fish town and NL, but none of those young professionals were gonna plant real roots bc as soon as they start to want having kids they’d take one look at the school situation and fuck the hell off back to the suburbs.

That’s what me and my wife did at the time, and she lived there for like 10 years. I worked at the navy yard then, and would have loved to live in the city, but not with a kid going to school in 5 years

I’m gonna continue to risk injury and death by not driving a car around other cars and instead ride one of the listed things, or a motorcycle. Someone’s got to get out there and go against the grain of always using cars…

I’ve already got titanium in both legs from being hit on the sidewalk inside the city, rolling the dice on more medical repairs, fuck it.

Every time I go back through WRTC, it has been worse. 5-6 years ago there were benches and people would sleep in front of the exhaust vents for the west headhouse.

They have just been slowly removing more stuff and putting barriers around everything to make it suck even more. It's the single most hostile place I've been to.

L&I department specifically is a hot mess (not saying that other city departments don’t have their issues). Bad upper management, poor worker retention and too little new hiring means not enough inspectors that can actually come out to enforce codes. Even other city departments have trouble getting them to help with enforcement for issues when it’s their responsibility.

Everyone from Rhawnhurst (however few of us that may be) knows this, but demolish that hookah bar by Castor and Rhawn, and the Albanian Cafe with the jet black windows and steel door on Buselton by Farrell Elementary because those establishments are nothing but trouble.

While I largely agree, we both know that isn't a workable solution for a number of folks. To further complicate matters, the entire area is a car-focused death trap for pedestrians or anyone not in a car.

While there are some nearby offices, there are a lot that are a few miles away from the mall and that creates its own problem.

So it could be a great catalyst long-term, but that would really require Montgomery County to really change their zoning laws and focus on more pedestrian-focused solutions.
