The Loyalsock Trail? That scenic overlook is stunning.
Plus Forksville has a cheesesteak place that was on the cover of the Inquirer recently.

Some high rise buildings in U City would really make our skyline incredible. One can dream…

This one seems different though. I'd agree that most volunteer / non-profit groups are a black hole in terms of spending vs. effectiveness, but this seems different in two ways:
- They have a defined and measurable statistic in the X% reduction in crime in school areas (assuming they're not playing games with defining the school areas).
- They have a clear objective with how the money is going to be spent (raises and more employees).
Programs like this are night and day vs. the give me millions so I can build an anti-violence phone app crap that was being touted a year ago.

I've been doing sports betting in literally every bar I've been at in the past couple of years, how in fuck is this different, given it's not a casino?
Also - fuck sports betting in particular and gambling in general. One industry I vowed never to set my foot into (and I've seen quite a few software engineers in my LinkedIn network go there from the likes of Twitter and some other Fortune 50 companies).
(I win on the regular, but I also play with coffee money; I've seen people's livelihoods destroyed with easy online betting).

> away from achieving goals
The people allocating the funds need to define what those goals are. They need to be measurable goals and funding must be withdrawn from organizations (government as well as private) that fail to meet those goals... or the goals need to be refined. This is something that the vast majority of government agencies at every level fail to do.
The same should be applied to laws, but I may as well bark at windmills.

Pastries at Machine Shop (Bok). FDR meadows walk (not as nice anymore I guess). A 76ers day game. BSL up to Chinatown for dim sum at Tom’s. Then drinks and watching people play pool at a bar like Good Dog.

It 100% reminded me of back in the day Fat Tuesday and the Freaknik on South St back in the 90s

I hear ya. But some of these people don't have any idea where they're going ahead if time for their community service if they're coming right from jail. My aunt lives in jersey on the river and twice a year, guys in their orange jumpsuits come to clear out lots of old wood and trash along the river. They're chaperoned by a bunch o gun carrying cops and I've been there when they're over there doing it. They get a gorgeous day outside and they look at the water and they clean up the area. They're usually there for 10 hours. They get breaks. They do a gorgeous job, and they're very kind if folks walk by and greet them. I'm of the mindset that yes, there are some people out there who are not in any way fit for society for whatever reason, but I also know that *some* violent offenders could have just fucked up badly due to circumstance. I believe a lot can come from rehabilitating people.

This is different bro. They don’t HAVE the gambling, they just ENCOURAGE the gambling. And you’re surrounded by luxury while you’re being encouraged.

C’mon, don’t be obtuse. A few hours of community service isn’t slavery. Their payment is not having to go to jail for the crime they committed.

Hey, in MontCo we can check out membership passes from the library to a bunch of family friendly places. Is that a thing at the Philly libraries too?
