Lol at OP thinking he was religiously discriminated when in reality he was just a being boner and was treated accordingly. I would have dropped him off too. It’s my car and I’ll play whatever music I want. And OP couldn’t just sit through 12 minutes of gospel without being a smarmy little dork about it.

OP, If you think this is religious discrimination then you are historically and culturally illiterate.

Do you insist that cab drivers remove their Maria statuette from their dashboards when you get in their car? Do you ask clerks to take off their crucifix necklaces when you order food from them?

No, I haven’t experienced that, because I’m in someone else’s car, so I don’t tell them what they can listen to.

I’m an atheist myself, and when someone is listening to gospel, I put my headphones in.

Unless the driver specifically asks if their music is okay, it’s not my business to tell them to change it. It’s their car, and the contractual agreement was for them to give me a ride… that’s it.

Any tips on events going on in the building? I've always been interesting in seeing the old architecture but the only thing I am aware of is going to dinner at the restaurant. Does any group do tours or anything historical like that?

Neon signs are the coolest, shame that the City Beautiful movement and auto driven building codes banned dramatic signage on buildings and storefronts

I want to say that was something they addressed pretty fast when they started renovation. They started working on it my first year at Temple and I don't recall seeing that on the roof ever

In the process. It's operating as a hotel, we have guests coming in and out every day, but there's a good chunk of residents left. The last of them should be out around May and then it will fully be hotel-only.

There's a group doing renovations on the lower floors for four restaurants/cafes there. I was at event in the basement restaurant/event space there within the last year and it was pretty cool. They have a lot of work left to do on the building but it's getting there. The food was amazing too.

It's so crazy thinking back to fifteen years ago when this area was entirely low income, ungentrified and considered a no-go zone by many in the city. And honestly, it did look and feel very rough. Crazy how fast things change.
